We thoroughly enjoyed this side trip on our motorcycle ride to Alaska. We weren't sure about riding the nearly 100 miles of gravel, but wanted to see and take pictures with the arctic circle sign. Robert was our tour guide, very knowledgeable about the history and uniqueness of the road and surrounding area. Several rest stops, sandwiches and snacks and a tasty stew at the circle picnic area. We stopped at the Yukon river for a few minutes, the local supply depot and enjoyed everything about this tour until we were delivered back to our hotel. Highly recommended, thanks Robert!
A must do. The tour director was a wreath of information. I would recommend this to any traveler. Looking to visit Fairbanks and go on some of the other available tours.
Awesome to see Alaska in all it's pristine beauty! Robert, our guide, was very informative and had a lot of information about the area.
This was an excellent tour. Despite less than ideal weather, the drive went by quickly with regular stops at interesting photo ops. Our Driver/Guide Tyler first took us to a point along the Pipeline and we begin our day long journey of driving alongside and seeing beautiful views of it zig-zagging up ahead. One last stop at a gas station and we were off towards the Dalton Highway! Along the way, we were provided with a nice snack. We got to stop several times visiting beautiful vistas, the Yukon Bridge and eventually making it to the Arctic Circle. We enjoyed a lovely lunch of stew, coffee and hot chocolate prepared by Tyler at a camping spot right at the sight of the Arctic Circle sign. Then, the trip home with a few more stops and more scenery. Tyler was knowledgeable, didn't make us feel rushed at stops but kept us on schedule. This day was a highlight in my trip to Alaska.
Our guide was the best. Very knowledgeable and great with the history. Wonderful driver and stopped for break. The lunch was a really nice touch. The beef stew was wonderful when we arrived at the Arctic Circle. Would recommend to anyone.
Not only would I recommend this trip, I'd take this trip again. On our way to the Arctic Circle we stopped multiple times along the way to explore points of interest. Our driver made sure we had enough time to look around and take pictures of ourselves and for those others on the trip. Our driver pointed out key geographical features both natural and manmade. Answered a barrage of questions from all of us. Trip included a sandwich snack along the way and a beef stew lunch once we arrived at the Arctic Circle. A nice touch!!!
On July 13, my two sisters ages 89 and 86 and I 73 and our three best friends from home were on a long-planned trip to Alaska. It was our 3rd trip, but our friends 1st. In 2007, my older sister really regretted that we didn't do the air trip to the Arctic Circle. We might have had we planned for it, but we didn't find out we could do it until we were in Fairbanks, and then there just was no time to schedule it. So, for 10 years we have heard that she still wanted to go to the Arctic Circle! While planning this trip, I saw several months in advance that I could book this tour through Viator, so I did it! None of us regretted it! We had a wonderful time. Dave was our driver/guide, and he was great! He kept us entertained and informed along the way. He was so considerate and helpful with the 89 year old who has limited mobility! He was considerate of all of us, but we did this trip for her, and she really had a good time and was able to participate in everything! I'm glad now that we didn't do the air trip in 2007, because we would not have done this van trip, and it was so much better than seeing it all from above. The entire day was wonderful. I would recommend this trip to everyone! Yes, the Dalton Highway is bumpy in places, the restroom facilities are awful, but when it was all over, we looked back and realized that it was all part of the adventure!
Be prepared to be gone ALL day. However, it is a tour well worth the time and money. Our guide, David, was very informative and great fun. Lunch of beef stew and sandwiches was delicious. The ride up the Dalton Highway is quite a trip. Be sure and have your picture taken at the sign - it gives you bragging rights. I do greatly recommend this tour.
The trip was fantastic. Our tour guide, Robert, was so nice and very informative. He did an outstanding job of entertaining us on the long trip. The lunch was great also. Definitely would recommend this tour to everyone.
We had mixed feelings about twelve hours on a bus, but Alaska scenery and our tour guide Dave made this work. The small group was friendly and Dave was attentive to the needs of the group, from disabilities to bathroom breaks. He kept talking with informative background on what we were seeing and kept us in good humor throughout the day.
If you tried to drive this yourself, you would miss the experience, as the road would occupy all your attention.
We got all our questions answered, learned a few good stories and had a great time.
Thanks Dave! Take this tour if you want to see the north country.
We truly enjoyed our trip to the Arctic Circle. The small group of 8 passengers allowed for a lot of individual interaction and our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and the sites. The scenery was breathtaking and the numerous stops allowed everyone to explore the Alaskan Wilderness and Dalton Highway. A word to anyone taking this trip, the road is not paved and bumpy, so be prepared. But it is well worth it to express one of the true remote roads in the US.
We had a fabulous trip to the Arctic Circle!!! I was concerned about being stuck in a van for 12.5 hours. No worries. Our wonderful guide made the trip so interesting that it was over before we knew it. There were plenty of stops along the way, including bathroom facilities. We had a fabulous day with Robert AKA Roberto as our guide. He was very friendly, actively engaged in conversations with everyone, and gave us wonderful information on the Alaskan Pipeline, History in Alaska, dog sledding, and numerous other topics. He was very knowledgeable and made the entire trip interesting. The stew that was served for lunch was delicious!!! Our group of 8 all went back for second helpings. I would highly recommend this tour and Robert as your guide!!!
The tour was very nice. The tour operator, Arctic Wildlife Guide, sent possibly their best person named Dave, who promptly picked us up from the hotel at the appointed time. The first stop was at the Alaska Pipeline outside Fairbanks, AK. Several details about the pipeline were explained. After a couple of other stops to stretch our legs, we finally reached the Arctic Circle location on the picturesque Dalton Highway. I don't know how, but he produced a fabulous meal even keeping our preference for vegetarian food. The stew was very tasty.
Being from New Jersey, the most densely populated state, traveling on the Dalton Highway was a novel experience. Miles and miles of winding, undulating roads with only occasional sights of other vehicles, encounters of snowshoe hares and other small wildlife, unlike the pesky deer on our roads, breath-taking vistas of superb, vast valleys, unending stands of conifers and other green vegetation, the Finger Mountain... I can go on and on.
The Yukon river was another attraction on the way. Watching such a huge river at such a remote location was thrilling. It was one river I could walk down to, and touch the gray and cold water.
Dave answered my numerous questions very patiently, and is an example of a great tour guide with vast knowledge about the terrain, seasons, flora and fauna, APL, other local attractions, and tourist psychology. Hats off, Dave!
All in all, it was a wonderful trip whose cherished memories will be with us for a long time.
The trip was over narrow rough road, sharp turns, huge potholes, steep hills and was mostly loose gravel. It was originally built in the 1970s as an access road for the construction of the Alaska pipeline. I'm sure glad that I didn't try to drive it myself. Our driver/tour guide Tyler was excellent. He was an Alaska native who knew how to navigate the roads. He also stopped at several points of interest along the way. An unexpected bonus was that one of the other passengers was a surveyor for the pipeline who was visiting Alaska for the first time since working there in 1975. Once we got to the Arctic Circle station we had a picnic and received stamped certificates. The people working the station had bred crumbs to place on our hands to have some of the local birds eat out our hands. One of our stops was at a truck stop shown in Ice Road Truckers.
Although it's hours and hours of being in a car, our guide, Dave 1 or Dave Schmitz, made it worth the while.
Absolutely an amazing trip. Our guide was the most informative guide , we have ever had. He was so knowledgeable in almost every topic. Would highly recommend! Even had a snowball fight at the artic circle.
Be prepared for a long day but it was great. The van we were in was new and comfortable. The lunch they served was homemade and very good.
It was a really good trip! Dave was an EXCELLENT guide. He was knew a lot about the country we were going through and had many stories. The only downfall as that his microphone in the van didn't work all the time so we had a hard time hearing everything. It was a very long day but so glad we went!
Absolutely superb! Our guide was very knowledgeable, helpful and fun to travel with. Cannot praise him or the trip high enough
The tour was very good! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative about the area. He made the drive enjoyable.
The tour was very interesting and informative. It was raining on and off along the way and it was muddy and bumpy but we enjoy it.Once your surrounded with nature you'll forget the dust ,mud, rain enjoy the freshness of the forest high on the mountain top everything is wonderful.Nicholas our guide is very knowledgeable about the area and the people as well as the animals that lives and tribe all along the way to the Artic Circle.Amazing tour.
Great tour. Long ride but the guide can make it seem short. Nicholas gave us several stops at pipeline, camps, landmarks and other interesting places. He had a lot in information on Alaska and aspects of living there. We picked wild berries and saw many animals along the way. We learned more on the trip that anywhere we went. The soup at the Arctic Circle is outstanding and is unique to this tour. Weather was not the best for us with light rain at the Sign only. It was a minor distraction to the trip.

This trip was a highlight of our Alaska visit. Our driver was Nick, after a little trouble getting his microphone to work he told us loads of interesting stories. The roads are pretty rough in places but we knew that in advance so were expecting it. We had comfort breaks at Hilltop and Yukon River. We were well catered for - a snack bag when we boarded the van and a delicious stew at the Arctic Circle, Highly recommend this tour!
The Dave man!!!! What a great story teller! Had some trouble with his new wireless mic. Ha ha. I didn't have an idea of what to expect that far north! Go look for yourself. Once you discover how rare it is for Americans to travel to the Arctic Circle you will want to go. Ask for Dave!!! Good stew for lunch. And they give you a bag of snacks as soon as you board the van.
