It is a very long day Left my campground at 9:30 am, did not return until after 5:00
-shuttle from campground in Te Anau to manapouri
-boat across Manapouri Lake 45 minutes
-informative bus shuttle from West End to Doubtful Sound 45 minutes
-The Doubtful Sound Tour itself
-Return Bus, boat back to Manapouri, shuttle to Te Anau
We got a really nice day for our tour. Apparently Milford Sound the other destination out of Te Anau was expecting rain. It was mostly sunny, with some clouds moving in near the end of the tour. Gorgeous scenery throughout the entire cruise which I cannot compare to any other place I've ever been. Alaska come the closest, but even not quite. We made it al the way out to the Tasman sea for a little bit and even caught site of a couple of penguins, which I though would all be gone by this time of year. My only complaint is that I had too many pictures to wade through!
fantastic we really enjoyed this trip but did wonder why it is not more advertised
Service was excellent and the boat trip on Doubtful Sound was spectacular. A perfect day.
This was the best tour on our holiday. It was well organised and every need catered for.
Great day, well organised. Excellent commentary and top shelf scenery.
This was an amazing trip well organised and just the most beautiful and spectacular scenery imaginable.
A lovely trip, coach driver was funny and very informative.....brilliant!
An absolutely brilliant day. One of the highlights of our trip to NZ.
The staff were excellent but it was all about the scenery.
Even fealt quite emotional when they turned all the engines off for a silent 2 minutes
We were a bit concerned when we got to the dock at Manapouri as it was raining and very overcast. It started raining hard and rained for the boat ride and then the bus ride but the bus driver told us how lucky we were to be there when it was raining as there are more and bigger waterfalls. He was right. It stopped raining shortly after we got on the boat for Doubtful Sound and the experience could not have been better. Everyone was very nice and shared a lot of information.
Everything went according to expectations, no complaints. Sadly the weather was not great, but the boat crew still made a good day for us all. The rain made the waterfalls more spectacular, and we were able to go to the mouth of the sound as the sea was fairly calm. I would recommend this as a good value day tour, if I get another opportunity I would try the overnight tour.
The trip is very nice, especially if you are lucky with the weather, but it is very expensive too. I would probably pick the shorter trip to Milford next time, it is cheaper and I guess your pictures will be very similar.
Wonderful experience, would recommend it to anyone visiting this area.
An excellent and smooth tour with everything very well run.
Quite expensive - but worthwhile. Great views over the Wilmot Pass and down into Deep Cove. The trip on the water was excellent. Weather was rather overcast but views were generally clear. When it did become misty with drizzle, the views of the sides of the fiord were just as stunning. Seeing a pod of dolphins by the boat was the icing on the cake. The tour guides were very informative and most helpful.
Fantastic tour, really lucky with beautiful weather, stunning scenery, organisation was first class and we would highly recommend you!! We simply can't fault anything about the tour! We LOVED it!!
This was a great trip so well organized. We had to take a bus they picked us up at our hotel! to a boat then another bus and another boat. ALL went so smoothly, the drivers were well informed and friendly the trip was absolutely beautiful at all points. The boat on the Doubtful Sound was super nice good tour guide the captain even stopped the boat for us to see the amazing dolphins. For anyone considering this trip - it's well worth the investment.
Just picturesque. The surroundings are just beautiful. The boat is spacious and plenty of viewing opportunities on the decks.
When the drizzle came through, I went inside was was very excited to find all walls were glass so didn't miss one second of the view.

Having booked this trip 6 months previously, we hoped for good weather as December 2015 in NZ had been rather disappointing. Come the day, the weather was clear and sunny - just what was wanted. We were picked up at our motel and the coach ride to Manapouri was quite short. Then on to the catamaran to speed across Lake Manapouri to West Arm and this was followed by another short coach journey over the Wilmot Pass Road to Doubtful. The coach driver was a 'fountain of knowledge' and had a great sense of humour. We arrived at Deep Cove and the stunning view of Doubtful Sound - awesome!!
Our 3 hour cruise along Doubtful Sound was memorable for the spectacular scenery, vegetation, tree falls, waterfalls, seals, jumping dolphins and the stillness of Crooked Arm, when the Catamaran's engines were turned off and the enthusiastic tourists on board fell silent to appreciate the beauty of this natural wonder. Magnificent.
Throughout the cruise there was an informative, but not intrusive commentary. The Catamaran's staff ensured all tourists were safe and free refreshments were provided throughout the journey. The coach driver on our return journey made all the visitors laugh by telling us that Doubtful Sound was wet on 2 out of every 3 days each year, and with the last 4 days being completely dry, the area was officially in drought!!
I would thoroughly recommend this excursion, suitable for all ages and surely a 'wonderous adventure into a remote area of New Zealand'.
Beautiful day so we were very lucky. Nice boat and excellent commentary on both lakes/sounds. Saw seals and penguins and were given enough time and opportunity to take photos and view the wildlife and scenery. One of the most memorable days of our NZ trip.

Wonderful trip, Skipper Dave Allen and all the crew were fantastic.
The scenery is unbelievable and the interaction with all on board was typically Kiwi.
Will certainly recommend this company to all.

Doubtful Sound is so beautiful, the only thing that spoilt it a little was the weather but that's luck of the draw as it rains there 2 out 3 days. The journey was very comfortable. A long day but worth every minute.
All arrangements worked perfectly including the weather.
Like 3 trips in one with the Lake Manapouri cruise then the bus trip and finally the cruise on Doubtful Sound.
