This was a wonderful way to see Florence and experience the real cooking side of Italy. Lavinia was a fabulous guide, the chef's and cooks were terrific. A better day could not be found. Walkabout Tours is the way to go.
What a wonderful opportunity to eat fabulous food that we cook!!! As a added bonus it allows people to have a meal together from all societies and all walks of life! A wonderful experience.for a mother to teach her daughter!
One of our favorite things we did in Florence. Our tour guide Francesco had a great sense of humor and led us through a short culinary tour in Florence. We then had a short bus ride to the farm house, which had amazing views of the city. Chefs were great, food was amazing. Pizza was tops!!
Can and #39;t rate this highly enough. Our guide, Valeria, was lovely. We really enjoyed the trip to the market, especially all the tasters on the way! The venue is stunning, real postcard stuff, and our welcome from Carmella was warm and genuine. Food cooked is amazing!! It really was the best trip ever!
This experience exceeded my expectations! We only had two days in Florence, so we were unsure whether an all day tour was best, however this was the highlight of our Europe trip and got to see some of the city as well as the beautiful country side. Sandra, the tour guide was enthusiastic, extremely knowledgable and made everyone feel so comfortable. The food we made was devine and in abundance with the wine flowing. I would not hesitate in recommending this experience to anyone. Plenty of laughs!
Out of everything that did in Italy this was by far the BEST thing we spent Money on!!! Carmella and Isaac were so great to work with as our chefs! And our tour guide Elisa was so informative and a joy to be around all day! Along with all the great activities we did we also got to meet some great new friends/couples that were apart of the tour! This is a MUST DO!!!! Well worth the money plus some!
This was our favorite tour EVER!! So fun. There were 16 of us, most were around 30 years old, and couples. The walking food history tour in Florence was interesting, the time in the huge Florence Market was fantastic. The home was located up above the Michelangelo View Point above the city, very pretty. The kitchen was huge. Very hands on. Pasta and Pizza making were our highlights. We had dinner reservations, but by the end of eating about 5:30pm, we ended up cancelling our dinner reservations as we could not eat anymore that night.
This was an amazing day and was so much fun! I would recommend it highly. The whole group was wonderful. Great tour guides, chefs, and even the fellow participants were so nice. In the end, the food was delicious. Kim Dellastatious Ridge
An absolutely great day. Our guides and Chefs were terrific and the entire family from my college aged son to me--someone who gets lost going to the kitcjen had a blast.
Definitely do this!
One of the most AMAZING experiences we had on this trip. I highly recommend Walkabout Florence for any tours. The guide Maritna was great, and our two chefs, Issac and Carmela were so friendly. The walking tour to the markets was such a cool experience, it has inspired me to cook with more natural ingredients. We really had a great time and learned so much. I cannot stress enough how much fun we had on this tour. If you have the time, please, please do this tour.
My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Italy. My wife wanted to do a cooking class while we were in Florence. Luckily a co-worker of mine had been to Florence in May and had done this same class and highly recommended it. We LOVED it! We stayed at the Hotel Spadai in Florence which is close to the Duomo and easy walking distance to Walkabout Tours which is where this class originates from. We met Freddie our host along with our fellow classmates sisters from Hong Kong, a girl from the Philippines, a couple from Houston and a couple from Denver at their office. Freddie then led us on a walking tour through Florence where we picked up bread and vegetables on our way to the Central Market where we got our cheeses and meats. We then loaded up into a couple of taxis and headed out to where the class was to take place.
The setting is absolutely magnificent. It's a beautiful overlook of valleys and hills and vistas. As you walk up, there is a stand alone wood burning oven which leads you to a wonderfully constructed stand alone kitchen / prep area. It is modern and rustic at the same time. And as we cook, there is a separate dining area that is all windows and the view is spectacular.
The class was so much fun. I am NOT a cook, so I was there to eat. My wife loves to cook, but isn't a Julia Child's protégé. We were there to have fun. And we had a bunch of it. We learned to make Ragu, pasta, pizza, tiramisu, gelato, etc. Chef Isaac was there along with our Italian chef hostess and they were all amazing. Freddie did a great job of hosting us and making us feel comfortable, engaged and informed. The food was spectacular and the company was great. We all got along and laughed and cooked...
It is a full day and we were stuffed and exhausted when we finally got back to Florence. I wouldn't change a thing and I would definitely do it again. Definitely 5 stars and I highly recommend it!
This was one of the highlights of our trip. A thoroughly enjoyable day spent with excellent hosts Freddy, Isaac and Carmela. We can highly recommend this trip - the dishes were delicious and it was a wonderful way to meet others from around the world.
My sister and I had an amazing day and would recommend this to anyone wanting to create great memories. Great personal interaction with Martina remembering our names and really getting to know us. Great city and market tour in the morning. Amazing kitchen, great food, drinks and a friendly group.
Great experience! Good food and wine. Learned about cooking Italian recipes from the experts! Opportunity to meet other travelers. We cooked in the kitchen of my dreams and had lunch in outdoor dining area overlooking Firenze. it was one of the highlights of my trip. Thanks to Martina, Carmella and Issac.
I spent 21 days traveling through Italy. My trip was everything I'd hoped for and more, but this event was the highlight of my trip and money well spent. The class delivered as promised.
Fabulous Tour! Gloria and staff were awesome and Carmella was amazing! Food was excellent, tour of the city and the market was so interesting and educational! The property was beautiful and wine was bountiful! Our entire group ages 21 to 54 enjoyed every minute of this experience! Highly recommend, even for those who are not chef's!
highly recommended. One of our best days in Florence. Great staff and delicious meals. A bargain!
The cooking class was really helpful and it was a lot of fun. The farmhouse where the class was held, its really beautiful! Im speechless! Thank you for the experience!
Cooking, eating and culture go hand in hand. Everything you need to know is in this tour. Our nonna/instructor Carmela was very passionate about food and even though she did not speak a drop of English we could all understand and follow. Also the cooking class is held at a picturesque Tuscany farm house over looking luscious rolling hills.
This tour was the highlight of our trip. .We were treated royally, luxurious views, kitchen modern and impeccable. , food was amazing. The grounds on the Tuscan hills were splendid. Our dining room was all glass looking out onto the hills. Lavigna and Carmela pulled out all the stops for us.t
Great walking tour to start the day with our guide Gloria. Little insiders knowledge into the food and culture of Florence. The farmhouse location is beautiful and the food is delicious and plentiful. A day of fun, food and wine :)
What an amazing day! Starting with a short walking tour of Florence, and purchasing the ingredients to the later cooking lesson at a picturesque farmhouse in Tuscany, the whole experience was absolute quality. Our four hosts ( Martina/ Lavinia- our guides, the lovely Italian Chef and Isak the Chef from Seattle) were of the highest quality. Their attitude was way above any expectations and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. I am positive that every single person had a day to remember. With out a doubt this is one of the best tours I have ever been on- an absolute must for any visitor to the wonderful city of Florence.
We had such a great time on this cooking tour! It was my fathers 60th birthday present, the 5 of us came from Dubai, London and South Africa. It is probably one of the best things I have ever done in Europe and I can recommend it to anyone in or around Florence. The guides Martina and Lavi were professional, charming and funny and really helped to make the experience more memorable. There was a beautiful dog Falco at the farmhouse! I highly recommend this tour!
A fabulous day with wonderful guides, Livinia and Martina. It was well organised, informative and a lot of fun. We enjoyed eating it nearly as much as we enjoyed preparing it.
I've been coming to Florence for years and have taken any number of tours and enjoyed various experiences. This was the highlight of my last trip as well as one of the most memorable ever! Great fun, food, wine, learning experience, beautiful sights and lovely people. Carmella rocks and so does Livi. Best of Florence for sure.
