What To Expect

Meet your guide at Florence’s Piazza della Repubblica. With your skip-the-line ticket in hand, make your way past the general entrance lines outside Florence Duomo, and head inside the famous place of worship.

Also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo is one of the world’s largest churches. Hear fun facts about its history as you admire Paolo Uccello’s clock and frescoes by Giorgio Vasari.

Next, you’ll head up the staircase, making your way through corridors that have been off-limits to the public for centuries. When you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with views over the city from the terraces—more than 100 feet (32 meters) above ground level. Hear how Brunelleschi created the dome without the use of scaffolding, a feat that defied the traditional rules of architecture.

If you want to climb even higher, then head up to the top of Brunelleschi’s Dome. Your skip-the-line ticket gives you access to the vantage point at the highest level of the church.

Your tour finishes inside the church, but you can stay inside for longer if you like. Your ticket also grants access to the Great Museum of the Cathedral, Florence Baptistery, the Great Museum of the Duomo, and Giotto’s Bell Tower. Attractions must be visited within 48 hours of your tour.

Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore

The group will enter in the Duomo, then it will climb in order to reach the exclusive terraces first (153 steps) and then the very top of the Brunelleschi's Cupola (310 steps).

Worth the early wake up!

To see the church when it first opens and get to the top of the dome before Florence wakes up was one of the highlights of our trip. Laura was a wonderful guide.

Early Morning Gem
Ruth_R, Jul 2022
Great opportunity to see the Duomo before the crowds hit. Greta was awesome. Great time along the way from bottom to top with incredible Florence vistas.
MATTHEW_B, Jun 2022
It was HOT. Still, worth the climb. Breaks in-between one section of the climb and the next makes this climb doable for people who are (1) not claustrophobic and (2) in GOOD shape. If you cannot honestly say you are both #1 and #2, do NOT do this tour. Having said that, it was fun and exciting with a good tour guide to give us historic references and point out the details of the cathedral and dome paintings as well as landmarks once we made it to the top outside the dome. I did not feel rushed at any point during the tour and I was able to enjoy the entire experience. I highly recommend this for adventurers! On an aside, I had to go back to FLORENCETOWN TOURS MAIN OFFICE a day later because I wanted to see the other sites at the Duomo (Baptistry, Museum of the Duomo) - which you can do UP TO 72 HOURS after your initial visit. Since the tour guide did not give me my original ticket, The office staff were very kind and accommodating and reprinted my ticket for me so I was able to finish out the attraction. KUDOS!
Incredible tour

This tour was wonderful! It was nice to be able to skip the lines and see places not available on the regular tour. Sara our guide was very insightful and passionate about the history of the church and Florence in general.
Great day of climbing

Beautiful place, loved climbing up so high to see the city. Worth the climb. Tour guide was very knowledgeable.
Magical Morning
Gina_Y, Nov 2022
My husband & I highly recommend this tour. Walking in to a completely dark basilica & watching the lights come on was breathtaking. The silence also enhances the moment because you really feel like you can take everything in. No distractions. After climbing the stairs to the top of the duomo, we were rewarded with stunning views of Florence waking up. That particular morning was foggy. The sun coming up over the distant hills was breaking up the fog. The beautiful city before us emerged from the dark & the fog. Stunning!
A great way to see the Duomo
Alima_S, Oct 2022
A great view of inside, the history of the cathedral and walk to the terrace and up the steps to the outdoor terrace. Highly recommended for a first time visit to Florence!
Carl_E, Oct 2022
This was a highlight of our trip to Florence, I would highly recommend it!. It was a lot of stairs, so you have to be fit, but the view from the top was phenomenal. The breakfast is just a Croissant and some coffee, but was good. Going into the Duomo first thing in the morning and the lights being turned on was special. Overall an A+
Knee Knocking and Spectacular!
Robert_D, Oct 2022
This tour was exhilarating! Our guide Irene was very knowledgeable and her English was excellent. The climb to the top of the Dome will blow your mind and is a truly unique experience. Being hundreds of feet above the floor of the Duomo was knee knocking and spectacular. The skip the line feature was great!
Don’t miss this one!!

This was a must do! We loved learning about the history of Florence and then also meeting new people! Not to mention the breath taking view at the top - completely worth it, you won’t regret it.

The city was so crowded but this was the best, just us in the Duomo, Basilica and Baptistry. Excellent tour guide, stayed with us all the way up and down, tickets to the museum afterwards, breakfast included, absolutely the best time in Florence.

Most incredible view!
Crystal_N, Sep 2022
This is an incredible and unique experience! If you do anything in Florence, this is a must! Warning, not for those scared of heights or not in good shape to do steep steps.
This tour lives up to the name and wonderful experience it advertises!
Joshua_M, Sep 2022
This is probably the best “skip-the-line” tour that my husband and I have taken, because it truly lives up to that claim. We got to walk into the Cathedral of Florence when the lights were all off, see the security guards turn them on, go to the top of the Duomo when it was just 8 of us and the tour guide! It was amazing! Francesca, our tour guide, was incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful with her commentary, and was so kind to a couple who left their radio at the top of the tower (she had to go back up again and get it, which is a whole second workout)! What a professional! Be sure to do the 6:45am sunrise option, and you won’t be disappointed. Just be sure you aren’t claustrophobic, and that you are ready to climb 460ish stairs.
Amazing experience. The only way to avoid crowds
Kimberly_M, Aug 2022
This is the way to see the Duomo! We were the first inside the buildings and to the top. It was exceptional. Francesca is an excellent guide and led us brilliantly. Her care was lovely. The depth of knowledge was impressive. This tour is everything they say and more.
Great Way to Begin Your Day
leeddanner, Aug 2022
As a retired structural engineer, this was one of my most anticipated events of my 3 weeks in Europe. The small group met at 645 to view the ceremonial opening of the Duomo and Baptistry with ornate skeleton keys. Then we enjoyed pastry and coffee before beginning our up 463 steps placed over 550 years ago. Francesca was a wonderful, patient and informative guide. The view of Florence was fantastic, and since we were the first group to climb to the portico, we had about 15 alone at the top before the crowds began to join us.

The tour guide is very knowledgeable. She is also very resourceful and considerate. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in architecture, arts and history of Florence.

I’ve been to Florence several times and this was the first time that I experienced the Duomo Skywalk. Once at the top, it’s an amazing view of the entire city. The hike to the top is only for the fit and those who are not bothered by confined spaces.
Wonderful experience, great guide
Donna_L, Jul 2022
Our tour guide, Francesca, was very charming and knowledgeable. I like that she asked us questions and made the tour interactive. She spoke great English and was easy to understand.
Moment in History
William_C, Jul 2022
Amazing tour that inserts you directly into history. Use restroom before as there aren’t any on 2.5 hour tour. Could be beneficial to see Duomo Museum before tour for better context.
