The tour itself was terrific - Carrara was an amazing experience especially the landrover drive up to the top of the mountain! Pisa quite superb, but Lucca was the crown jewel - not enough time there unfortunately. The guides were charming and informative, so all in all, a great trip.
Not a bad tour overall, but it wasn't all that great. First, they combine this tour with the tour of Pisa and Luca so we had to drive on the bus with the rest of the group to drop them off at Pisa, then we went to Carrara. It was a big waste of time to do this. The tour was disorganized too, we had to wait a long time to be picked up in Carrara and taken up to the quarries. The actual marble quarry tour was nice, and the views from up there are spectacular, however I was disappointed that we did not visit the cave/underground portion as advertised in the description. The lunch at the quarry was good.
After the quarry tour, we drove on the bus back to Pisa and had about 30 minutes to rush and get pictures of the leaning tower. Then, we had about 2 hours in Lucca which was very nice.
The check-in at the train station was chaotic and strange since everyone from all their different tours was all there at the same time. They picked us up from the hotel, but did not drop us off which I thought was strange. The tour guide was nice, but he was completely against the concept of the quarries and asked us all why we chose to do this tour with all the other beautiful things to see instead - I thought that was weird.
Overall, not terrible, but could have been better.
We were not sure why the company used a big tour bus for 50 people to go up the hill to the Carrara meeting point. If a smaller bus was used, that could have saved us at least 30 mins. Also on the highway, the bus drive was driving slower then normal speed chatting with guide, other buses were passing us. We were very rushed at the marble quarry, was told we were very late, and rushed at lunch, and had 15 mins eating was ok to me cause there was not much to eat- few leaves of salad, 2 pieces of bread wedges, and deli meat, and 5 mins at the gift shop. The worst part was we ended up with only 30 mins in Pisa including walking to and from the bus drop off at Pisa, so we had only about 15 mins to take pictures at Pisa. The logistic of this tour is strange, the first stop was Pisa, why cant we tour Pisa first and then while the Pisa only group stayed for the walk, lunch, wine and free time, then the Carrara people can leave for the quarry tour. Then rejoin the group to Lucca. Two hour in Lucca is way too long, it can be shortened, the town is boring.
