This was a great tour!
Castello del Trebbio is stunning, the grounds are gorgeous and the staff were all friendly and welcoming.
I booked this tour for myself, my husband and his parents. We were greeted by Stephania and had approximately 1 hour to tour Castello del Trebbio with her and a small group of 5 others. The tour explained the history behind the castle, took us through the main floor only the main floor as a family still owns and lives on the upper levels, and through the wine cellars/ old dungeon where they make and store wine and olive oil. The tour was interesting, but the highlight was definitely the upgrade to the 4-course cooking class with Gerry the chef.
There were only the 7 of us for this portion, and we made olive pesto, homemade pasta he taught us traditional methods for making the dough by hand, rolling it and cutting it, roasted chicken thighs wrapped in prosciutto and roasted potatoes, as well as a traditional tuscan cake so delicious!. After we learned to make these, and assisted the chef to make each course, we sat in the dining room of the castle and were served our meals along with wine pairings from the del Trebbio winery.
This was a really neat experience, and although we have done cooking classes in Italy before, we learned some new techniques, had a lot of laughs with Gerry and learned some fascinating history from Stephania. The castle grounds themselves are stunning, and I highly recommend going early to explore and take in the beautiful scenery.
Awesome tour and class! Far exceeded our expectations. The class we participated in was actually the full cooking class with lunch. We made a delicious chicken dish, potatoes and vegetables, pasta with vegetarian sauce, and cake for dessert. The class was not as hands-on as I had expected, but it was very informative and quality. The instructor was awesome. The food was out of this world. It was fun and educational. Lunch was delicious and shared with the class members eating in a private dining room in a 900 year old castle - stunning! We all ate so much, more than enough. The wine was delicious and plenty to go around. We tried a white, two different reds, and a dessert wine. The tour of the castle was fascinating as well. It was longer and more detailed than I expected. The castle has a very interesting history in relation to the political history of the Italian Medici and Pazzi families. I'd highly recommend this tour. Great value and worth it!
This a must do tour when you go to Florence. Awesome tour of the Castle and the history of the wine making and the cooking class are great experiences for a couple and/or family experience. The dinner you make and the wine were so delicious highly recommend this tour it really makes it more unique to your trip.
We visited Castello del Trebbio today as part of our honeymoon. We started with a tour of the castle which was absolutely breathtaking. We had such an great experience learning about the history and current family who owns the castle. Our guide Costanza was able to give us such incredible knowledge about the wines and olive oil oh the region was so interesting. It gave us a deeper appreciation for the thought and care that goes into production. We were fascinated on the knowledge she gave on Chianti and the difference in the young and reserve types.
After our tour, we headed into the kitchen to learn from chef Jerry. He was so patient with us and loved the tips he gave on utilizing different ingredients. We made a a variety of items including delicious chicken with potatoes and homemade pasta with a delicious vegetable cream sauce. We even forget we were eating vegetables! Our lunch was served in a beautiful dining room by our guide Costanza. We were able to taste 4 incredible red wines, one with each course of our meal.
This visit exceeded our expectations and fulfilled my biggest wish, to cook traditional Italian food in Tuscany! We picked the perfect place to visit and have this be a wonderful memory of our honeymoon! Thank you Castello del Trebbio and especially Costanza and Jerry making this day so very special!
This was an amazing tour of a castle and its wine cellar. This castle was built in 1100 and it has some wonderful history. The tour of the wine cellar was very educational on the making of true Chianti wine and extra virgin olive oil. Then our favorite part of the tour was the cooking lesson. We made a four course meal including pasta from scratch then we got to eat our meal in the same dining room that family would have eaten hundreds of years ago. We did another wine tour of two other vineyards and we enjoyed this tour with the castle tour and cooking class much more. It was ... Molto bene!!!!
When our trip to Florence was officially booked, we knew that we wanted to have at least one hands on experience in Tuscany and this tour seemed to fit the bill: wine tasting and cooking at a 900 year old Italian castle..sign us up! We figured it would be interesting and fun. It was SO MUCH MORE than that! What an incredible experience we had. Costanza, our tour guide was so full of passion and knowledge about the castle which was truly unreal! and all of the wines made in the region that we were hanging on her every word. She was full of life and warmth and it made the tour extra special. When she dropped us off in the kitchen with Gerry, our chef, little did we know that we would cook one of the most delicious meals we had on the trip, one that we made with so many laughs and shared stories about food and life. Gerry was patient and kind and a terrific cook who shared many secrets about Italian cooking with us. After preparing the meal, we were delighted to find that we would dine in a beautiful room in the castle with a huge roaring fireplace as Costanza presented us with a different and delicious wine with each course. This tour was a true highlight of our trip and a memory that we will never forget. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
This food making and wine tasting tour was terrific. Before the tour, they were very communicative in making sure we had transportation to the castle. We used their recommendation, a car service. I wouldn't try driving there yourself unless you give yourself extra time. From the beginning to the end, this whole package is very well orchestrated. The wine tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. Chef was patient with us non chefs and gave us hands on experience. He taught us many cooking techniques. The pasta dish we had was the best I have ever made and tasted.
What a fantastic experience! Our guide nuomi was so passionate and knowledgable about the history of Castello, it was great to visit a castle that is still very much lived in. Our chef was a lot of fun, he made us all at ease in the kitchen, giving everyone the chance to take part! Highly recommend!
