What You Can Expect

Small-Group Tuscany Wine Country Day Trip from Florence Including Wine Tasting and Lunch

Enjoy a classic light lunch with wine on this day trip from Florence

Your tour will begin in central Florence near Piazza della Repubblica, where your guide will join you. Hop aboard your luxury minivan and journey toward the hilltop towns of Tuscany. Soak up the scenery of the countryside while your guide provides commentary about the area’s history and wine production.

Your first stop will be Montepulciano, home of the beloved Rosso di Montepulciano wine and the vino di nobile. Admire the town’s Renaissance architecture and stop for a visit at San Biagio church.

Make a stop at a wine cellar once belonging to one of the founders of vino di nobile, located under a medieval castle. Learn about the cellar’s history and sample a few of its flavorful blends.

Afterward, your small group will head to Montalcino for a 3-course lunch at a local winery. Enjoy three varieties of the prominent Brunello de Montalcino wine to complement your meal. When you’ve finished up, take a leisurely stroll along the streets, catching views of the Orcia Valley and the town’s impressive 14th-century fortress.

Your guide will then lead you to the Monte Oliveto Abbey, a Benedictine monastery dating from 1300. Admire frescoes by famous Tuscany Renaissance artists.

Your Tuscany wine country excursion will conclude with a drive through the hills of Chianti before returning to your original departure point in Florence.

This tour was great! We drove about an hour and a half each way and stopped in the 2 wine towns, as well as Pienza which was between them not on the itinerary, but very cute town!. The wineries were very interesting and the tastings were generous. The second winery was a biodynamic farm and they served us lunch. The wine was really good. We also got free time for about 20 mins in each town to stroll about and see the sights. We even got to go inside an old castle. We also stopped on the side of the road for some great Tuscan countryside photos. Our guide was full of information and was really helpful. No negatives on our experience.

A very enjoyable tour into the beautiful Tuscany hillsides. Our guide Jacamo was a sweetheart. The two hill towns were nice to visit although there was only one true vineyard where we looked at growing grapes, asked questions, and had lunch. It was a nice change of pace if you were staying in Florence for more than three days. They ran the tour with only four people in our SUV so very relaxing.

Our guide, Giacomo, was great. He gave a history of the surrounding villages and about the history of the wine in the regions.
We were early to the first winery in Montepulchiano, so he took us to another one while we waited which was very accommodating. Then we went to the winery we had intended and it was nice to see the two different versions of the same wines. We had a nice time wandering down through the village, though I wish we could have spent more time there.
Then onto the Montalchino area winery where we had several great wines and what really turned out to be a four course lunch. Very delicious and filling. And the wine glasses were refilled quite generously.
After that, we went to Montalchino and walked around the town. This was smaller that the first town, but very charming.
Lastly, we went to the Abbey to see the sights. The sound inside of the Abbey was amazing. Shame the Monks were not chanting while we were there.
Overall, it was a great tour and a lot of fun with a chance to taste some of the wines outside of the Chianti blend and see some of the hill towns.

Although this Tuscany wine tour was more expensive than others and had only two reviews, we took a chance and booked it because it concentrated on Montepulciano and Montalcino instead of trying to cram them in with a tour of Chianti. We took a 3.30 Euro bus to Greve on another day. It was the right choice. Giaccomo, our driver, gave us a thorough education on Tuscan wines and the region in excellent English. We had generous tastings at the Contucci winery in Montepulciano and with the delicious but light lunch at the Piombaia winery near Montalcino. There was enough time to explore the two towns, and we felt that it had been a perfect day.

Excellent tour. Guide did exceptional job. Meeting the vintners was a real treat. The smaller the group, the better. We had four people and it was a perfect size for the experience. Give this tour a full five stars

Giacomo was a gem He was fun and informative and seemed like he really cared for what he was doing. He was very knowable and personable. He is definitely an asset to your company. We wish we were able to have him on the other tours we took

Great Time, great Guide, but I was not really impressed by the wineries selected. I've on other tours in the area and this was not my favorite. The wine tasting was saved by our guide by having us sample wines and markets near by!

Saw 2 beautiful Montepulciano and Montalcino but we were disappointed with the 3-course meal because it wasnt really a meal. It was just bruschetta with ham, cheese with 3 kinds of wine to taste. For something that was so expensive, we expected more. We had no tour guide; just a driver.
