Why Travelers Choose This Tour
This tour follows an off-road route in a 4x4 vehicle to showcase parts of Chianti many visitors miss.
Meet your guide in central Florence and hop aboard an air-conditioned, 4x4 minibus. Watch the city streets transform into the rolling hillside of Chianti, lined with vineyards and olive groves. Your first stop of the day is at a winery belonging to one of the most prominent Italian families. Taste three wines paired with cheese and two olive oils, and enjoy a guided tour of the historic wine cellars. Travel to the olivemill through the villa's underground tunnels, as well as to the garden. Afterward, head to a Tuscan restaurant and settle down for a 3-course meal, including regional specialties such as two different types of fresh pasta and two glasses of fine Chianti wine. (See the Itinerary for a sample menu). Continue to the charming town of Greve-in-Chianti, where the Chianti Classico wine festival is held each year. Pick up a selection of typical salumi (cured meats) from one of Italy’s most famous butchers to enjoy later at the second winery. Enjoy the last of your afternoon at a small, award-winning winery that specializes in Chianti Classico wine. Hear about the winemaking process while sipping and swirling delicious varietals. Your tour will conclude with a ride back to Florence.
The Taste of Chianti Excursion was incredible! Our guide Martina was knowledgeable, funny and easy going when sharing her love of wine and her Florentine roots. I would recommend this tour to everyone I know! No matter what the weather (it was raining on our tour), I would still tell all to do it. This tour provides you with the basic skills to understand all details on picking an Italian Wine for your next dinner and understanding the difference found in a good Italian extra virgin olive oil. We absolutely loved everything about this tour!
We had a wonderful time on this day tour. We enjoyed the big air conditioned bus and the skillful driving of Romolo! We toured 3 beautiful wineries and Martina gave the group relevant and interesting information. We had a great experience that offered a relaxed day outside the city of Florence.
Our tour was led by ALEX and he was fantastic. Full of energy, passion, knowledge and a willingness to answer anything asked. He was great from the get go, sharing his life's experiences and knowledge of the area and the subject "Chianti". He went into unexpected levels of details about soil, terrain, nature, the sun, the vines, the grapes, the processes and how they all play a part. The 3 wineries were also fantastic, so were the wines, all the food and the Olive Oils we tasted. Cannot recommend this tour enough. Great job Walkabout Florence Tours and ALEX.
Our tour guide, Stefano, was really great. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. All 3 wineries we visited were difference but great. Food was excellent. If I could change 1 aspect of this trip, it would be to eliminate the stop in Grieve as there was very little to see and do in this town.
Our tour guide Gloria led us through a fun and excited day of tasting wines at three different wineries and off roading through the vineyards from one winery to another. We would have enjoyed just the tour/wine tasting alone but the addition of getting to off road through the vineyards was a very nice addition. The group we went with was a lot of fun and we enjoyed getting to know each other and taste the wines and olive oils throughout the day. We made memories we will keep forever. Thank you Gloria!!
this tour was very informative and educational. I really liked our tourguide Alex - he is an expert and really enjoyed sharing personal stories about his life and career with us.
Personally, I think that this tour is overpriced. Offloading experience was cool, but not exhilarating. The views of Chianti will take your breath away, but seeing Chianti on your own is more feasible. I thought there would have been more wine offered on this tour but they spread out the wine provided so that you dont drink too much (but who cares since we arent doing any driving and on a tour?)
I would do this tour again, but as i mentioned- i dont think that the price justifies what is provided.
Incredible tour! The bus was comfortable and cool, it allowed us to drive on unpaved back roads and made for an exciting and funny ride. The tour was the perfect amount of people and we all had a great time getting to know each other--it was a very friendly group attending the tour. Our guide Martina was excellent--she was so kind and knowledgeable about every place we went to! We learned so much from her during our tour, she did a great job explaining everything in just enough detail but not too much and as a certified sommelier was able to give us lots of great insight into the wine making process. The lunch was fantastic, it was the best thing we ate during our week long stay in Italy and overlooked beautiful scenery. This tour was by far the highlight of our trip! It was relaxed, fun, and absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to spend a day in the Tuscan countryside tasting food and wine.
