Heidelberg isn't recommended. Rothenburg is highly recommended!!!!
Great trip and handsome and lovely driver . Would recommend if you are into history and not time poor to do a full day at both locations. If only interested in Christmas shopping then this tour would be more suitable. in say this we only had limited time in Frankfurt and this tour tucked all the boxes lovely views old history highly recommend!!

Highly recommended. Will take you also through the romantic road, really beautiful. excellent company.
we were fortunate to have the same tour guide, George, two days in a row and he was again extremely good. it was a long day but well worth it.
My family and I had a great time, made more so by our very nice and thoughtful guide, Peter.
We really enjoyed the tour with our tour guide/driver, George!!!
He was very attentive, knowledgeable, and funny!!
We were only 5 people, but George was all out!
My sister and I really had a great time both in Rothenburg and Heidelberg!
George was such an excellent guide!! I would love to have him as our tour guide the next time we go to Frankfurt!!
We were lucky to be the only people on the tour, so it was much like a private tour with an absolutely fabulous driver called Willy who showed and explained many sites, history and attractions for us to visit. Both towns were beautiful with Rothenburg our favourite. Be prepared for a drive to Heidleburg and then onto Rothenburg and back, but this is the fun and adventure that you will have. Great trip thanks to the expertise of our guide and driver.
We loved the tour. Zolt was very nice and accomodating. It was a great day.
Peter was a great tour guide, very friendly and informative; he really knew his stuff. The Christmas market was really cool - the whole town was transformed into a holiday village. Great medieval architecture.
Out tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable, and the tour hit a lot of good sights in the area. I very much enjoyed walking the castles grounds as well as walking in town. It and #39;s a good length just to get a taste of the town, but it can be a little fast paced for some.
I have done multiple Viator tours in multiple different countries. In general I feel like the sights are always worth it, though the variables in logistics control what makes the trip enjoyable: transport method, guide, timing, lunch, fellow tour attendees etc. The more transparent the company is about these changeable elements, the better the trip.
They did change the itinerary on us as other reviewers have said we went to Rothenburg first. Also, Rothenburg is way better than Heidelberg, as others have said. Rothenburg is a cute town with lots to explore, and Heidelberg you take a quick 20 minute tour of the castle and then walk around a much busier town with mostly just shopping. So the itinerary switch did make sense but I could imagine many people wanting to know in advance that you spend waaaay more time in one place and actually switch the order of arrival. This trip was also in a literal 7 seat minivan, which worked out okay since I got the front seat, but I would have been pretty upset to pay all this money and get stuck in a small middle seat for hours and hours of driving. Small group meant you get to know each other better. Our guide was nice, but on the quieter side. Also, the provided lunch is a homemade cheese and pickle sandwich, so expect to buy something while you're out guide gave me a great recommendation in Rothenburg. These are small notes that influence the experience but in the end Rothenburg was so cool, it was totally worth it.
It was very nice. Rothenburg is worth visiting. It is a lovely medieval town. Georgeous. We were taken in a mini van, only 4 of us, the driver was really nice and gave us a lot of info.

Very nice to see both amazing towns in one day. If you have time, it is highly recommended to expend one full day in each. George, the gide, is a very well prepared and kind.
We had Adrian and Peter and they were great! They even dropped us off at our hotel because it was on the way back which was really nice. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because we took the tour on Sunday and all the shops were closed. I wish we had some sort of warning in the tour description.
We had a good time on our trip. The car was clean and they prepared 2 boosters for my 2 young kids. The tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly. This makes our trip hassle-free especially traveling with 2 young children.
Good small group tour. Both Heidelberg and Rothenburg are nice. I would suggest go to Heildelberg first than to Rothenburg. We did the other way round so spent morning on the motorway and late afternoon only arrived in Heildelberg, which not visible when it's in winter time. Missed the day light view of Heildelberg high street and castle view from city.
Don't waste your money. With a good guide book and a train ticket you can get the same experience. Due to the late kick off time 9:30 AM our tour missed Heidelberg - it took 3 hours due to traffic which our guide said was 'normal' and 'expected' and that tours miss Heidelberg all the time and everything was closed when we got there. I thought it was weird when the guide asked if we still wanted to go to Heidelberg, but now I know why. The tour guide is OK but the tour is WAY to expensive. A tour book can give the same info. Oddly, they did provide sandwhiches, but I couldn't understand why as really good sausage and such is easily gotten and consumed while walking the streets. I recommend seeing Heidelberg and Rothenberg but not this tour.
Heidelberg in winter was sad. Keeps raining, sky was grey and gloomy. Interesting stories by the guide.
Tour was good but on the way coming back the van we were on had stole car problem so the we were on the emergency road next to high way for one hour. It was dangerous situation because every time when the automobile pass by whole car was shaking. The tour company should have provided service quick.
I would give it 2 stars. Our driver was Boris - nice enough but was hoping for more personality. He also rushed us through Heidelberg only 20 mins in the old town and NO tour of the town. We had over 2 hours in Rotenburg, clearly his favorite place to visit. Both places are beautiful. So overall it was ok but for the price a bit disappointing.
Don't do both cities in one day, too much driving. Started in Rothenburg and it was great, good amount of free time. Drive to Heidelberg was hectic and had very little time to visit city, only Castle. Driver didn't tell us Rothenburg was first stop and we had to force bathroom break after 1.7 hours.
