Step back in time on a 3-day tour through Bavaria from Frankfurt. With a private guide, set off down the Romantic Road, visiting medieval towns like Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbuehl, ending in the vibrant regional capital of Munich. Along the way, hear myths and tales of the Schwartzwald (Black Forest), tour the magical Neuschwanstein Castle, admire stunning countryside and enjoy overnights in delightful local hotels.
Your 3-day tour of Germany’s romantic Bavarian region begins in Frankfurt. In the morning, set off with your private guide into the southern countryside, where you’ll enjoy spectacular scenery and visit picturesque villages like Rothenburg ob der Tauber, dubbed the ‘Jewel of the Middle Ages’. Over the next days, you’ll hit all the regional highlights including Neuschwanstein Castle, the premier example of a fairytale palace! This excursion includes plenty of free time to independently discover Bavaria through self-guided tours and sampling an array of local cuisine.
Your tour includes one-way coach transport to Munich, two nights of accommodation in hotels or B&Bs, daily breakfasts, guided walking tours, and admission to Neuschwanstein Castle.
Please see the Itinerary field below for more detailed information.
Great trip, interesting and fun with just enough guidance without the rush and structure of other tours. Hotels and points of interest were all 5 star quality.
Only recommendation is to make sure driver offers everyone audio guides in addition to apps. Best part of our trip to Germany .
This 3-day adventure is clearly laid out with vouchers for each days activities. You can participate in as much as you want or casually enjoy your day at your own pace. It was perfect in terms of doing what you want, eating when you want, and setting your own pace.
An exceptional tour. The bus departed Frankfurt about 20 min. late, but the other days it was on time. The drivers did not speak fluent English, but clearly communicated where to be and when. The hotels were clean with polite staff they had plentiful buffet breakfasts.
At each destination we used our travel book to make the most of our time and money. In Rothenburg we did a self-guided town walk, visited the Medieval Torture Museum, and used our provided voucher for the Nightwatchmen's tour. The next day we walked the top of the city wall and wandered down into the surrounding countryside.
Between Rothenburg and Hohenschwangau the bus stopped at many towns which broke up the long ride with a chance to grab a local Bier or a visit a historical site.
In Hohenschwangau we ate a delicious German dinner and sipped a bottle of Austrian white wine at the recommended Hotel Muller restaurant. The next day we visited both castles and between the tours enjoyed a snack on the benches beside the Alpsee. The bus ride back to Munich was efficient.
My tip: To get the most of this tour do your research on what to do at each stop on the bus before you arrive. We googled the extravagant life and mysterious death of Ludwig II for more salacious detail than was covered in either castle tour.
We actually loved it,,,we expected to have a human guide so that was a bit of surprise,,,,but once we got over that we enjoyed our independence,,,,,and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it,,hotels were good and I would recommend it...a great way to travel,,thank you
Efficient service, smooth from start to finish. Hotels were very good, the Goldeneye Rose in Rothenburg, be sure to do the night watch man walk, he is so funny! The hotel Mueller in Hohenschwangau was amazing, we had a great room. Everyone at every step of the journey knew exactly what was expected and we could trust that the arrangements were in place for pick up, trips etc. It really was first class.
Great time, great sites. Accommodations were nice and everything was well taken care of. Friendly guides.
I was slightly worried this tour was going to be too organised for my liking but I was wrong!
I turned up at the tour office to collect my tickets, given an envelope and was told to go to a bus stop - from there on in I was practically on my own. The envelope contained bus tickets, vouchers for taxis and reservations for hotels.
Apart from the Nightwatchman tour around Rothenburg, there was no guide but that was absolutely fine by me - there was an audio recording playing on the Romantic Road bus which was detailed.
The bus stopped at many of the towns along the way for photos and a stretch of legs. First night in a lovely hotel in Rothenburg with 1/2 a day to explore followed by another half day the following day then back on the bus to overnight stay at Hohenschwangau for another lovely hotel.
All day to explore the castles before being picked up by a different bus to be taken to Munich.
All in all a great trip that I would do again and recommend to others.
Thank you very much for this amazing tour and all the superb and punctual arrangements.
We had a great time and will come back to you to for more tours.
Beautiful towns on the Romantic Road journey, great accommodation staying with wonderful hosts, great food, amazing scenery. Munich with all the hustle and bustle of a modern day city was fabulous as was our accommodation and proximity to transport.
Wonderful tour along the romantic roads, loved our stay in Rothenburg, lovely hotel stay @ hotel goldene rose, did the night watchmen tour was definatly worth it, tour guide was very informative and funny. The highlight was Neuchwanstein castle which was amazing and beautiful the hotel Muller was a gorgeous hotel only wish we could have arrived earlier as we had to check out quite early in morning so didn't have much time in our lovely room, but no complaints, except Deutche touring did stuff up our dates but promptly rectified.
