Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour

What You Can Expect

Skip the Line: Neuschwanstein Castle Afternoon Tour from Füssen

See Hohenschwangau Castle on your half-day trip!

In central Füssen, you’ll board your air-conditioned coach and enjoy the scenic drive south to Hohenschwangau, where a shuttle bus to the impressive bridge of Marienbrücke awaits you. During the drive, you’ll absorb spectacular views of Pöllat Gorge and catch your initial glimpse of Neuschwanstein Castle.

Listen to history-rich commentary from your guide as you approach the fantastical fortress, built for the eccentric King Ludwig II in 1869. Bypass long entrance lines with your skip-the-line ticket and start exploring the castle’s opulent chambers.

Marvel at the decadent Byzantine Throne Room, peek into the richly decorated bedroom of King Ludwig and admire murals depicting composer Richard Wagner in Minstrel’s Hall. When your tour concludes, enjoy some time to explore the castle’s grounds independently — be sure to capture photographs in front of the landmark or revitalize with snacks in the town center at your own expense.

Then, greet your guide at a prearranged location and relax during the journey back to Füssen, where the tour concludes.

This is a must see castle! All the programs I watched prior to coming do not give it justice. Not just the architecture, but the surroundings makes Neuschwanstein one of the wonders of the world.

So glad we booked a Skip the Line! Our tour guide, Pete, promptly met us in Fussen and gave us lots of information about the region and the castle prior to arriving at the castle. Pete had the timing down to a science so we saw the castle from a distance spectacular view! and arrived at the castle at the exact time we were scheduled to enter. Because the tour of the castle involved some walking to get there, Pete offered us different alternatives to make the trip less strenuous. This is great tour since Ludvig the II is such a huge part of the history of the region. The tour of the castle was well managed so you moved from room to room in groups according to your audio guide, but never felt crowded. A well spent afternoon seeing the opulence and beauty of a summer home of royalty.

This was a great tour. This place is packed and we would never have gotten tickets. Our host was very knowledgeable and accommodating.

I was able to snag this tour on the morning of the day before thanks to Viator. European Castle Tours do this one daily and the guide Amir was very knowledgeable and made the tour much more enjoyable by embellishing the history of the local area and the castles for us before the basic castle tour began. The castle tour proper is 30 minutes of regimented groups being driven through the construct like cattle, but the castle itself is definitely worth a visit and has some impressive features. European Castle Tours picked us up directly from their Fussen right near the train station which was very convenient and quickly and efficiently got us past the lines of tourist waiting to buy tickets and gain access. We were able to get to all the places of interest without any great hassle and although at times it felt a little hurried, that is because the basic Castle tour is scheduled in 30 minute slots or herds if you like -, the overall experience was a great one with no time wasted hanging around.
On the whole a great experience and fast booking by Viator meant that us without any pre-planning we were able to get to see the castle the next day even though Suzanne of Suzanne's B and B had told us that there were no castle tours from Fussen and hadn't been any for some 10-15 years. She offered to help us get that one sorted by hiring a car from an acquaintance of hers for the day...etc.etc. Nice place to stay, but plan ahead. Apparently the locals are quick to capitalise on unwary travelers!

We had an amazing tour! Peter was very good and funny..made us feel so relaxed! The castle is so beautiful!! The tour inside exceeded my expectations for sure! Took a horse and carriage ride back down...was very nice. We have booked Viator for most of our tours when we travel and have not been disappointed once!! Highly recommend them!!

We were expecting to go with a group in a big bus from Fussen. Instead we had kind of a personal guide just for the family! In the castle there could have been more time, but they had their scedule and their authorized guides, so that was not anything Viator Travel could do anything about. But again, our guide 1 july in Fussen, Fredricio, was really good.

This was a great tour and our tour guide Amir was very knowledgeable about the castle and the history that went with it. Would of liked to have more time to ride the carriage but in all fairness Amir did ask the group and went with the majority. Great way to tour with viator due to the huge crowds there. We had trouble finding the meeting place and we weren't the only ones. They just need to make their Castle Tour sign a little bigger. We figured out where it should be located but the sign was a small sign near the bottom of the window.
Awesome views and had plenty of time to tour the castle.

Our guide brought us inside the castle where we waited for 45 minutes with nothing to do - it was rainy so maybe he was doing us a favor. The castle and views are amazing and made the tour worthwhile!

Castle was amazing! View from the Marienbrucke was awesome and not to be missed. Guide was friendly and informative. The only problem we had was logistics. The van that was supposed to bring us to the castle broke down so we had to walk up. My wife and I enjoyed the walk but other members of the tour were not as able and the pace was very slow. This is time we could have spent on the castle grounds. We were forced to catch the scheduled bus back down, which required a wait. I wanted to give this tour a higher rating but the problems we faced just did not allow it.
