What You Can Expect

Madeira Best of the West Day Tour

Beautiful mountain scenery

Your tour begins with pickup from your central Funchal hotel in time for a 9am departure. Traveling aboard a comfortable bus or coach, set out along the island’s south coast to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. Take in the views from the Pico da Torre viewpoint and enjoy a glimpse of everyday life in the village, before continuing through the surrounding vineyards.

Pause to admire the spectacular views from Cabo Girão, the highest cape in Europe at an altitude of 1,900 feet (580 meters), before arriving in the lively village of Ribeira Brava. Stroll around the village and admire the beautiful church of São Bento, then head north across the dramatic Paul da Serra plateau.
Follow a scenic route around the northwest coast, driving through the Ribeira da Janela valley, then arrive in Porto Moniz in time for lunch (own expense). After tucking into some traditional Madeiran cuisine, cool off with a dip at a natural pool, before heading to Seixal, where the Véu da Noiva viewpoint offers impressive views over the surrounding cliffs and waterfalls.

Loop back towards Funchal, stopping to take photos from the mountaintop Encumeada viewpoint, then drive through the UNESCO-listed landscapes of the Laurissilva forest.

Back in Funchal, your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel around 5pm.

As with my other trips using Viator I can't fault our day out. Will be back sooner rather than later for more walks and tours.

This is a great way to view the island. My particular group was only 7 people in a 15 seater bus which was good as legroom for a 6ft 2 person is non existent but had room to stretch out. Definitely recommend if you don’t just want to stay in Funchal

Diego, the guide, did a good job.

It was an excellent day trip, thoroughly enjoyable. John, our guide spoke good English, gave us a lot of information about places we were driving around, or stopped at. He was very approachable and answered all the questions I asked. I recommend this tour - also it was very convenient for us as we were picked up from the hotel and dropped nearby the point we wanted not our hotel. John was kind enough to do it for us and gave us some advice about shops with the Portugese cork wares/souvenirs. We appreciate that very much.

Although this was one of the cheaper tours on the market, it was thoroughly professional in every way. We were really glad to take a tour with such a well-informed guide, who spoke such good English. I really don't know how these drivers manage to keep an eye on the windy roads, whilst also giving a talk, and also translating it into a foreign language. I would crash in the first five minutes if I tried that. The schedule for the tour was excellent, because we arrived at Cabo Girao fairly early before it got too crowded. And we spent the hottest part of the day by the sea. I'm hoping to go to Madeira again, because I have another long To Do list, but when I do I shall contact Lido Tours straight away. No way are we driving on those crazy roads ourselves!
