This tour was a definite highlight of our trip to Switzerland. We could never have experienced the delights of the spectacular Swiss Riviera, the unique quaintness of Gruyeres, the cheese tasting experience, the chocolate factory and its unfolding story as well as the train trip through the picturesque Swiss countryside without the professinoal guidance of this Viator tour.Well done!
This is a well balanced trip provided you like cheese fondu. Facinating to see the old ways still in use to produce the cheese
I have to say, Maria might have been the best tour guide Ive ever had. She was very attentive and had great commentary. The tour was also very nice. The Cailier chocolate factory was like a Disney ride through the history of chocolate. I would have liked to see more of the chocolate being made but it was still a neat tour. The gift shop and chocolate is very good. I read a lot of people saying this is a Nestle factory so it's not that good. It is owned by Nestle, but it seems like they dont make your standard Nestle chocolate. This is higher quality and worth the price in my opinion. I picked up 100 Euros worth because I thought it was very good. This tour also takes you to a small artisanal farm where you have lunch with Fondue, meats, cheese, wine, and a local dessert. Everything was outstanding. I wanted to buy a little of everything. The village of Gruyeres was also very nice. It is very small so 1 hour is plenty of time to see EVERYTHING. The castle is very cool and the rest of the walled town is very picturesque. Then you take the golden pass train ride. The views coming back to the lake are spectacular. It's a very pretty ride. On the way back by bus, you stop in the Lavaux wine area. You pull off the side of the road at a small picnic area covered in vines. The view of the vineyards and lake are worth the stop. Maria served us a cup of wine from the area at the stop. It was a very nice day.
This trip is a must, am so serious!!!! every single detail was so fun. The tour guide told us a lot about the history of the country and other informations about the different places we went to. The chocolate factory, the farm and cheese fundo are a must to try.

Amazing tour covering different areas and Swiss beauties. Chocolate Factory, cheese Factory, Gruyères village, vineyards...great and expert guide.
We, myself and 4 teen daughters, loved this day exploring the countryside of the towns near Geneva. It was a full day of taking in the beautiful sights, learning about the culture and history and of course eating. We also took a ride on the bobsled down the mountain where we had experienced an amazing cheese fondue lunch. A truly authentic experience and Maria was a fabulous host/ guide.
We started the day in the rain, but were very lucky with the weather clearing up around lunch time so we could see the beautiful scenery from Gruyeres and the Golden Pass train. Everything about the day was great and our tour guide was friendly and helpful. Loved the chocolate factory, the little town and the wine at our last stop was a nice touch to end the day. Well organised and had a lovely time.
Excellent tour - I finished the day with a greater appreciation for why these specialty food products are so unique.
Maggie our tour guide met us with a big smile which set the tone for the rest of the day, which was lovely. A short journey through the mountains in a comfortable small coach took us to Gruyere where we first of all went to the Callier chocolate factory, then onto the Gruyere cheese factory and finally to the village of Gruyere for 2 hours of free time. Both factory tours were very informative, timed well and provided generous samples of the products produced in each facility. There was shopping time in each location plus in Gruyere village. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day which was a Godsend on a Sunday where nothing in Geneva is open and we would have been wandering around with nothing to do.
Excellent, perfect guide, only weather .......... Otherwise recommended for my friends.
Loved the open top bus. Yolanda our guide was fantastic. She shared lots of info and seemed to speak many languages so everyone felt comfortable. The tour starts at 10 which is a much easier start time and as we had 24 hours in Geneva this was the perfect tour. It is well planned and a good day out. You don't feel rushed. The weather for us was perfect, which made the scenery all the more beautiful.
We started looking for organized trips during our very brief visit to Switzerland and were pleasantly surprised to find an excellent offer on your website. Booking was very easy.
We booked two trips. Yolanda was our guide during both trips. She is an an excellent guide very knowledgeable about Switzerland its history, customs, politics, wine... She answered all our questions. She is also fluent in many languages.
Weather was beautiful and we enjoyed beautiful views and our scheduled program very much
This tour was definitely worth it, our guide was very informative. From the moment we left Geneva, she was pointing things out all along the way - no need for a City tour after taking this! Switzerland's landscape is incredible, breath taking!
The trip to Gruyeres was amazing, our guide was very nice and gave us a lot of interesting information. Would definitely go for a day trip with Viator again.
This was a fab tour that we really enjoyed. Our guide wa very informative and told us lots of fun facts along the way. The chcolate museum was brillaint and really i as much as you want to sample as well as bing vry entertaining and interactive. Dont be put off by the fact it is owned by Nestle unless you boycott them of course as they give you all the prior history and the chcolate is of good quality.
The cheese factory is so-so but Gruyere is brilliant- way more to do than we epected and we actually ran out of time. If youre going during th warmer months take a good bug pray as we had wasps bothering us!
The reason for 4 not 5 stars is that w got the 'non-gold' package and there was quite a bit of pressure to upgrade. The gold version has some very cool things but includes a fondue which one of our party didn't fancy and you can't upgrade to individual extras. We all wanted to go on the train but couldn't do this without fondue so ended up just sitting in the bus for an hour so a bit frustrating for us but if you want a cheesier experience then do go for gold.
Great trip. Beautiful views of Lake Limon, vineyards and grazing cows and sheep. The Chocolate factory was great with sampling many kinds of chocolate. We found a great restaurant in Gruyers. Would recommend.
My husband and i took this day trip to Gruyeres on a Sunday. Maria, our guide, was excellent, very well informed and shared her knowledge about the places we visited. The visit to the Cailler Chocolate Factory and the tasting of such delicious chocolates, going round and having lunch in Gruyeres, a very lovely medieval village, the picturesque views of the country side, the vine yards and Lake Geneve as you go down to Montreux were marvelous. Travelling in an air conditioned coach and having a friendly guide like Maria, makes this excursion very recommendable to all those visiting Geneve.
The tour of the Gruyeres cheese factory is self-guided via audio device, which allowed me to go at my own pace. Very informative. Cheese tasting involved 3 pieces of Gruyeres cheese at different stages of aging. Great way to see the difference in taste and texture.
After the tour, it is a short hike up the hill to the original medieval village of Gruyeres. A leisurely walk through the village provides multiple options for lunch own expense. The views of the countryside from the walls of the old village were awesome.
Cailler Chocolate factory was very enjoyable. The smell of warm chocolate greets you on arrival. The tour is via audio guide with multiple languages available. In the sampling room, you are allowed as much as you want. But you must consume it there. It was amazing! Would definitely go again.
The chocolate factory was fun and of course the free tastings at the end were yummy. Cheese factory was a bit boring and would have rather have spent more time in Gruyeres. Gruyeres is a truly medieval village with a castle on top of the hill. We were luck our bus could go to the top car park otherwise it is a long way up and very steep. Village has a fountain in the middle and cobblestone streets everywhere and the view from the castle are spectacular.
The arrangement is good and Maggie is nice.
The Gruyeres is an amazing town and the view is stunning.
The only problem was that I chose French as the language I wanted during the tour but they told me that it was an English tour and no French provided when I was about to get on the tour bus.
Enjoyable full day tour. Worth going to see a bit of the countryside outside of Geneva. Gruyere was a lovely place to wander and we had a traditional Swiss meal in the sunshine. Geiger museum was also v interesting if you're in to that sort of thing
very nice tour. The tour guide was very informative and spoke in multiple languages. Is was a reasonable distance from Geneva but comfortable ride in the tour coach. The Chocolate facility (Nestle) was very professional and well timed. The Cheese factory was a brief tour but provided a good understanding of the process. I have gained a new respect for cows in Switzerland....and we toured the small/quaint town. Would recommend this tour...
The chocolate and cheese factory visits were a bit rushed, but very fun. The drive was beautiful and the guide was very friendly. I really enjoyed exploring the medieval town on top of the hill! Beautiful day and wonderful experience!
