This tour was well worth taking and was highly enjoyable for the most part. I do think, however, that the visit to the "art gallery" and the "pharmacy" was not how I wanted to spend my time. I would've much rather been able to shop in the market and most of the people on my tour said the same thing. I felt like there was some sort of kick back situation going on between the tour guide and the owners of both of these businesses. The camel riding also could've been longer. Lunch was fabulous and everything else that we saw/did was amazing.
This was our first experience with Viator and a non-European country. From pick up to drop off the whole experience was a pleasure - the guides, Claire and Amad were excellent, the food brilliant and everyone was helpful and friendly. It might have been nice to shop independently for a while and a little longer camel ride, but all in all we had a great time and got a real taste of a very different culture.
Having investigated heading across the Strait to Tangier ourselves from Gibraltar, we soon came to realise the easiest way would be to book a day tour. This one did not disappoint! For only slightly more than the combined ferry and public transport ticket to Tarifa, we had hotel pick-up/drop-off, ferry tickets, tour guides and transport, lunch and entrance to other sites near Tangier we wouldn't have seen by ourselves. Claire and Ahmed were excellent guides and ensured the day ran smoothly. Our only minor niggle was the wasted time on the (optional) camel rides. Considering the ride lasted approx. 1 minute, we feel the time would've been better spent at the Grotte d'Hercules as by this point we had to rush back to the ferry terminal. Other than that it was an excellent day.
Tangier met all expectations but the tour fell short. Upon our arrival we drove thirty minutes for a photo op to a point where the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Oceans meet, and then saddled up for a camel ride. All the while we were told the afternoon would be the highlight of our tour. Good job, because the morning was time filler. Thirty minutes back along the same road and we had lunch. Good lunch. Nice experience. The afternoon we were whisked quickly through the side streets. No time to stop and barter with the street venders. We were herded into a bakery while the tour guide bought some goodies to take home. Then he dropped us off in an over-priced tourist shop for half an hour. He returned to take us to a natural herbal products store for another forty minutes where we listened to an infomercial. When that was over it was time to take us back to the ferry. Very disappointing. dB Canada
This was a wonderful experience. The Blands tour guide that spent a lot of time with us throughout the day was Tessa, and she is fantastic. She shares so much information and is exceptionally personable. It felt like taking a trip with a friend rather than with someone being paid to escort us! We got to see a lot of really exciting sights and the lunch experience was also great. The food was delicious and the service was efficient and friendly. Our guide in Tangier was Azziz (sorry about the spelling) and he was great for the most part. Near the end of the day, it became obvious that since no one on the tour wanted to sit through the rug presentation, Azziz was very unhappy. So much so that rather than keep the group together and escort us out as a group to exit the shop, he pretty much left us to our own devices, which meant that we were immediately mobbed by very aggressive vendors. Prior to that, when we were being led as a group, the vendors were much less aggressive. I felt that he did this deliberately. It was disappointing that we did not have time to actually shop in the souk as promised.
Transportation was well coordinated and was a breeze. Tessa kept us very informed about where we were going, how to get there, and what the process would be. Because of her, we breezed through customs lines and quickly understood the process for exiting the ferry very quickly. Her organization and informative style really made this tour and she deserves kudos for being such an excellent leader.
Parents on our tour made the unfortunate decision to bring along a small child and another child who clearly had sensory issues. This is a bad idea. Don't do this. Much - even MOST - of the time on this tour is spent sitting: on a bus to the Gib border, on a bus to the ferry, on the ferry, on a bus tour through Tangier, on a bus back to the ferry, on the ferry, on a bus back to the Gib border, and on a bus back to your hotel. Children DO NOT enjoy sitting for these long periods of time and they truly are not getting anything out of the experience. Choose something that will allow them to walk around and be outside actually experiencing things instead. The child with sensory issues did not do well in the chaos that is Tangier. Fortunately, Tessa knew exactly what to do and assisted the parents and the child so that he did not have to be subjected to an experience that was simply too much for him. Once again - Tessa made the trip. For everyone
I enjoyed seeing the landmarks and beautiful beaches. And the guide provided a lot of interesting information. The Moroccan lunch (provided w/ticket purchase) was amazing. However, towards the end of the tour, I expected to be able to have some free time to explore on your own. Instead, we were told we had to go where this guy was selling rugs and listen to his pitch. Then we had to go listen to another sales pitch about herbs. I thought the "herb guy" was kinda rude. As soon as this was done, it was time to head back to bus to take us to catch the ferry back. I probably won't ever do this again. The sites were nice, but the last thing I want to do while on vacation is listen to a sales pitch and feel pressured into buying something.
Very comfortable ride to and from ferry. Easy customs experience with assist from guide. Very nice day, delicious food and very knowledgeable and friendly guides. Highly recommend for a first time experience in this beautiful city.Special thanks to Claire and Abdul, our guides.
