What You Can Expect

Girona, Figueres Small Group Tour with Dalí Museum and Hotel Pick Up

After morning pickup at your Barcelona accommodation, travel with your guide about 1 hour to reach the colorful city of Girona. During the drive, learn about Girona’s long and rich history, from its ancient Roman roots through a thriving medieval era and evolution into a hip, modern Spanish city.

When you arrive, explore Old Town on a walking tour that takes you past landmarks like the Girona Cathedral and an iron bridge designed by famous French engineer Gustave Eiffel. Get a sense of life in medieval Spain while wandering through the city’s labyrinthine Jewish quarter, and rest your feet over a cup of coffee in a charming Old Town cafe.

Continue on to the small town of Figueres, located near the French border. Best known as the birthplace of surrealist artist Salvador Dalí, Figueres honors the legacy of its famous former resident with the Dalí Museum — designed by the artist himself and considered the world’s largest surrealist object. Explore Dalí’s life and work through the museum’s collection of his dimension-bending paintings and other original artifacts (entrance fee not included).

Relax on the return drive through the countryside to Barcelona, where the 10-hour tour concludes with drop-off at your original departure point in the evening.

Our guide was great! He knew Girona very well, and allowed us plenty of time to explore on our own. It was structured enough so that we saw everything, but un-structured enough that we molded the experience to our interests.

The Dali Museum is a real treat for Dali fans. The architecture is simply surreal. Well worth it for afficianados. Our guide Kurt was a Dali historian and provided pearl of insight. Girona was quaint. The old Jewish section, the oldest remaining Jewish neighborhood had no distinguishing features to show the link with history. Nevertheless, we had a highly educational tour because of Kurt, our guid's erudition.

3 star rating: Worth doing May 2017

We were disappointed with our tour, mainly because of the guide who was quite gruff and smoked during our walking tours.
The Dali Museum is well worth a visit, however, this tour does not include the tickets and we had to queue for 30 minutes to buy them despite it being midweek. Our guide told us the only thing worth visiting Figueres for was the museum but it was not possible to prepay the tickets, though we did see other groups fast tracking to the prepaid group entrance. This was disappointing.
Girona is lovely and it would have been nice to spend a bit more time there, perhaps a coffee break. I think we lost time due to queueing for tickets at the museum which we visited first.
Before booking I had read reviews all positive and happy with their guide, I think the guide can make all the difference.
I do recommend getting a tour that included the prepaid ticket especially on weekends or peak season
