What You Can Expect

Grand Turk Sightseeing Tour

Visit the Historic Lighthouse in Grand Turk

Meet your comfortable, air-conditioned coach and your friendly, professional local guide at White Sands Beach. After boarding, you'll head to the former US Air Force base that NASA used in the late 50s and early 60s to monitor space launches. Grand Turk's waters were the the splashdown location for John Glenn's spacecraft, the Friendship 7, after he was the first man to orbit the earth. On February 20, 1962, Glenn was rescued form the water and taken to this base while he waited for then–Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson to arrive and offer his congratulations.

The coach will ferry you down Duke Street, a historic thoroughfare that features many Bermuda-style houses that date from the 1800s. Stop here for 15 minutes to check out the shops and historic buildings, taking the opportunity to purchase refreshments and experience some local flavors.

Back aboard your coach, leave downtown and head north to the Grand Turk Lighthouse, which sits on the island's highest point and historically saved many sailors form shipwreck. Snap photos with your family and friends at the scenic limestone bluffs.

Catch sight of pelicans, wild horses, or flamingos on the way to the nearby Salt Museum. Learn about Grand Turk's history in the salt trade, in which islanders used natural ponds to evaporate sea water and harvest salt for export. After this 90-minute tour, your coach will return to your starting point at White Sands Beach.

Dwight was an excellent tour guide. Having grown-up on the Island, he was a historian as well as knew all the locals! He was courteous, helpful, friendly and a wonderful tour guide. His wife was an excellent host as well. I highly recommend to see the Island of Grand Turk!!

we were there on a Sunday which meant it was very quiet on the Island. The tour guide did a very nice job of explaining the history of the Island and the various sites. The Lighthouse is a bit of a disappointment.

This was our first experience with Viator instead of booking with the ship, because there was much more flexibility with times. It turned out that it was also less expensive. We were glad to have an air conditioned van, as we saw some tours that did not. The guide Julene? was friendly and knowledgeable. We would suggest that the vendor representative have a sign that says Viator or the tour company name so she was easier to find.

Our tour guide from Papa J was very pleasant and knowledgable. The van was air conditioned, comfortable and not too crowded. We did think it odd that we had to pay 3 each at the lighthouse to even enter the gated area. Of course the voucher could be used towards a purchase at the snack bar or small store. Just thought that was odd. There isn't much to see at Grand Turk, so I know why the tour was only 1.5 hours. We would l have liked more time in the downtown area to shop, snack and take more pictures.

The tour was fine the tour organizer was wonderful there was just not a lot to see on the island. If it weren't for seeing where my father was stationed in the 60's working for RCA / NASA for the Apolo launches I would have rated it less
