What You Can Expect

Whale Watching Adventure from Grand Turk

Whale Watching Adventure in Grand Turk

Meet your friendly, knowledgeable captain and crew at the White Sands Beach Hotel, then board the comfortable 27-foot (8-meter) power catamaran and set out in search of whales. Your experienced local guides will use observation, experiential knowledge and technology to track and locate North Atlantic humpback whales through the Turks Islands. Spotting whales in these waters is common, but is not guaranteed on your excursion.

Scan the horizon for signs of these gentle giants while your expert guides share their knowledge of whale behavior and history with your intimate group of 12 people. Bring sunscreen and a hat for your 3.5-hour trip on the open water while you search for blows, tail slaps and breaches. If you do see one, the boat will approach slowly and observe the whale from a safe and non-threatening distance.

These whales are part of a herd of 4000 North Atlantic humpbacks who like to spend their winters in the waters around Salt Cay and Grand Turk. The female humpback is the largest, ranging from 40-45 feet (12-14 meters) long, with the males clocking in at 36-41 feet (11-12.5 meters) long. Calves are 6-10 feet (2-3 meters) long at birth, weighing in at 1000 pounds (453 kilos), feed three times daily and consume up to 80 gallons (302 liters) of their mother's milk. Mother and calf pairs are easier to spot, since the calves have to come up for air more frequently.

After your excursion, you'll be dropped back at the White Sands Beach hotel and are free to find your way back to your accommodations.
