Then drive to Shamian Island to see historical buildings from the colonial European period. Learn about the British and French influences on the town's neoclassical architecture and design.
Next up, admire the rich decorations of the Chen Clan Academy, originally a temple that dates to the Qing Dynasty. Once used to prepare for imperial exams, the elaborately decorated building now houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum. Browse exhibits that feature Cantonese craftsmanship from Guangdong Province, including Chinese ink works, traditional embroidery and ceramics.
Have lunch at a local restaurant around midday, then continue your tour at the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King, which dates back 2,000 years to the Han Dynasty. See cultural relics such as King Zhao Mo’s burial garment, made with more than 2,000 pieces of jade connected by silk thread.
