I had an excellent time with my guide, who told me so much about the history and the culture of Guatemala. I was able to choose in which language the tour was, either of the languages were very easy to understand and we had a lot of fun. I would absolutely recommend it!
Tour was fantastic! Juan Pablo and Luis picked me up at my hotel and took me on a driving/walking tour of many different parts of Guatemala City. Juan Pablo's knowledge of Guatemala's history and geography was exceptional. I felt safe the entire time and it was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to all travellers to Guatemala City.
This tour was amazing!
Well organized, good guide
While there were a couple things that were less than ideal, overall our experience was A and deserves a 5-star rating. For example, the driver was slightly later than expected for our pickup. However, they had to make a stop at a hotel prior to ours, and that could have caused the delay. Second, the driver slipped a couple of times and was speaking Spanish with our bilingual travel companions when we asked to take a bilingual tour. I know enough Spanish to get 75 of what the tour guide was saying, but when you're paying to be presented with information, and you ask for it to be delivered in English, that is the expectation.
Anyway, I loved that the tour was part driving and part doing. By seeing the city via van tour, it was easy to capture a lot of ground in a short period of time. Traveling up and down the Avenue of the Americas was interesting. Our driver had both a political and historical awareness that allowed him to talk about not only the statues of the individuals along the avenue, but also all the political posters that were advertising the candidates running for president in the current election.
My favorite part of the trip was getting out of the van to hear about Palacio Nacional. I wish we could have toured it, but we did get to tour inside the metropolitan cathedral. After our stay in the central park, we drove to and toured the Relief Map.
I thought the Relief Map might be a little boring, based on other reviews I had read, but justified it as a better option than Mercado Central since we had just done that independently as a family the day before. The Map was rather interesting, however, especially given that our tour guide had provided us so much background information on the boundary disputes and inclusion of Belize -- a region some still consider the 23rd department of Guatemala. It was fun to plot on the map all of the places that we had visited that week while in Guatemala.
The tour leader was outstanding in terms of subject matter knowledge, articulateness in English, consideration of our wants, and personality. Likewise, the driver was excellent. Overall, a 5-star experience!
Very enthusiastic and interesting tour guide. Unfortunately the city doesn't have a lot of sites.
Good tour, knowledgeable tour guide. A nice way to get to know the city.
It was a interesting tour, a good guide.
While Guatemala is a stunningly beautiful country with a rich Mayan cultural tradition and amazing architectural sites the capital
Guatemala City is unremarkable. Before the organized tour I took the local bus into downtown - a sprawling network of shabby little
streets. Apart from the historic square in Sixth Avenue with its neglected looking cathedral and presidential palace, there is really little
in the way of architecture, parks or fine squares so typical of Spanish speaking nations. So while the tour guide was very pleasant
if you have more than just a few hours between flights to fill, you may as well just get the local green busses to downtown - as most
hotels are a few miles out from the centre.
