This tour was a highlight of our holiday. The bus tour to the location from Hanoi is long but comfortable, and so worth it! Our guide Bien was very informative and funny which was quite entertaining. Our group was small, with only 7 tourists and our guide, which was great! We boarded a large ferry style boat which was very comfortable for such a small group and we were served a beautiful seafood lunch. The views are incredible, of course! The bamboo boat ride is like a large canoe with a driver although you could choose to paddle in your own kayak and is a beautiful way to immerse yourself in the landscape. The limestone cave is just another interesting little activity to end off the tour. Definitely recommend this day tour if your are short on time and do not mind the total 8 hours of traveling to an from, as we were advised the overnight trip involves the same activities but simply at a slower pace with a night spent on the boat.
It was a long ride to and from Hanoi...but, at the same time, nice to see the countryside. The driver was excellent and the tour guide spoke excellent English and was friendly. The boat ride in Halong Bay was amazing, but the lunch on the boat left something to be desired. All in all, a good value for the price paid, and Halong Bay is worth seeing it. I am glad we chose a one day trip...can't imagine sleeping on any of the boats out there.
Halong Bay was as lovely as we could have expected. I thought the bus to/from Hanoi was a bit scruffy and very late in picking us up from our Hanoi hotel. The lunch on board the boat was only just acceptable and the boat staff seemed a bit detached.
