Meet your guide with hotel pickup in the morning and depart Napier in the luxurious comfort of a premium SUV. As this is a customizable private tour, the local supplier is open to any additions or inclusions requested.
The 5.5-hour itinerary generally begins with wine tasting at the Elephant Hill Estate, which features handcrafted wines. Located close to the shoreline, the views from the tasting room of the ocean and headlands, called Cape Kidnappers, are superb.
Next is a scenic rural drive around the Tukituki River Valley road loop to Craggy Range Winery, situated at the foot of the legendary sleeping giant, Te Mata Peak. You'll taste a wide range of red and white wines before making your way to the nearby Black Barn Bistro for lunch. Select a glass of wine from your wine-tasting session to accompany a 2-course, a la carte lunch, followed by coffee.
Your final stop is Te Mata Estate, known for its red wines, particularly the reputedly fine coleraine. After wine tasting at New Zealand's second-oldest winery, you'll take a drive up the narrow and winding road to Te Mata Peak — 1,325 feet (404 meters) above sea level — for magnificent views over Hawke's Bay and the surrounding region.
Time permitting, a brief tour of Napier's Art Deco business district can be included before you're taken back to your accommodation.
