  • Take in spectacular views of the Lassithi Plateau

The adventure begins with morning pickup at your Heraklion hotel and a trip out of town in a sturdy Land Rover with a small group. Journey on to the foothills of the Afendi Mountains for a hearty breakfast (own expense) and sampling of raki brandy in the village of Kastamonitsa.
Follow an ancient Minoan path, winding through scenic mountain passes as your guide relates the history and myths of Crete. Get a glimpse into the local shepherding lifestyle with a visit to a mitato to feed the livestock and watch a cheesemaking demonstration. Next, snap photos of the Lassithi Plateau on the way to the famous Dikteon Cave, known as the birthplace of Zeus according to Greek mythology. If you like, pay a small entry fee and climb the rocky steps up to the cave.
After working up an appetite, break for lunch at a local tavern, where you can choose from traditional and vegetarian starters and main courses, served with wine. In the afternoon, observe traditional ways of mountain life and handicrafts at the Lassinthos Eco Park and the farming village of Seli, located on the Lassithi Plateau. Make a final stop in Krassi, known for its natural spring water and 2,000-year-old tree, before the scenic return drive to your hotel.

We had a great time on this tour! Our guide, Geoff, was early picking us up from the hotel. His knowledge of Crete is vast. Geoff loves Crete very much and this shines through as he shared so many facts throughout the day. The stops were all very lovely. We had the opportunity to purchase items from different villages but felt no pressure at all to make purchases. Lunch (which was included) was delicious. My only recommendation would be to bring a bottle of water with. Thank you, Geoff, for an awesome day!

This was such a highlight of our few days in Crete! Stelios is so incredibly knowledgeable and willing to share everything he knows about his home! The tour took us to some amazing places and we met some great people and goats! The mountains of Crete are so beautiful and the lunch they provide was delicious! I would recommend this tour to everyone!

My daughter and I had a great day with Darral and two other families from England. Darral was excellent and very informative. The trip was amazing and meeting an actual cheese maker with his friendly goats was fun also. We also had amazing stops in several small villages for Raki, cheese and bread. The family style lunch was also very good. Take this excursion, it’s well worth it.

What a wonderful, fun was to see the mountain area of Crete. We learned so much about the history of Crete, it's culture, customs and agriculture. Our guide was very enthusiastic. You could tell he loves his country. We loved exploring the small villages and Zeus' cave. The lunch was super yummy and there were plenty of options for my daughters who have to eat a strict gluten free diet. The tour was a highlight of our time on Crete.

I had a personal day to travel around Crete so I had to make the most of my time, and this tour delivered! Our guide was Darrell, an Englishman by birth but a Cretan in heart and soul. He kept every moment entertaining and shared his passion for the island and it’s people and history. Highlights of the tour included the Lasithi Plateau, breadbasket of Crete, the Cave of Zeus, where I’m glad I listened to his advice (up the hard side, down the easy side), and being introduced to many of Crete’s flora and fauna. The rare gem of the day was seeing an endangered bearded vulture (Lämmergeier) along with native griffon vultures. Afterwards I had enough time to enjoy the Heraklion city center and port on my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and am glad I had a chance to meet Darrell and be introduced to this wonderful island.

First time to Crete, we decided to do the full day Safari tour. It was a great choice. Our guide, Daryl, was grea. Good command of the English language, funny and very helpful. The tour was well organized and full of activities. This is an off road safari in a Land Rover that is designed for that, this is not a luxury trip, so be prepared to sit in in tight seats, especially the very back of the car that seats 4, 2x2 setup. The trip will include high climb in very narrow and torturous in paved roads, so it’s not fo the light hearted or those who are looking for a luxury trip. The lunch was included and was very good
All together it was a really fun trip that shared by 8 people for 8 hours. My 14 and 16 year old kids absolutely loved it.

This tour was the best one we took during our entire Greek vacation. Simon, our driver, was knowledgeable, very entertaining, and most importantly a safe driver. There were plenty of stops throughout this tour which were enjoyable for all members of our group, including the children. The lunch stop was perfect and the tour operator did a great job making sure my daughter received a meal that was both safe and tasty for her she has a gluten allergy. We noted the food allergy when we booked the tour. In addition to visiting various sites in Crete, there are a few stops to sample olive oil, honey, and Raki alcohol with opportunities to purchase them from the local vendors. I highly recommend this tour if you are visiting Crete.

This is an excellent tour! My friend and I booked this tour and Daryl was our driver/guide. He was extremely knowledgeable, funny and helpful. We saw sites we never would have seen on Crete without going on an off road tour. Everywhere we stopped, people were so friendly and welcoming. The mountains and views were truly amazing! Highly recommend this tour if you're in Crete!

We loved this excursion. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and hilarious. There was a bit of confusion because we had booked the tour where we were supposed to go to a farm and have fresh cheese and such. The tour we actually got went through the mountains, stopped in Spili and went to Preveli.

This was one of the highlights of our Greek adventure. Our guide Darryl was fantastic! A Brit expat who has an endless knowledge of Crete, wonderful driver who makes sure everyone is comfortable, safe and havivg fun. He is funny and knowledgeable. The adventure was great. We saw Crete up close and personable. Visited a couple Tavernas, one for morning coffee and one for a great lunch. The travel thru the mountains was memorable and visiting the goat herder and his traditional cheese making farm was awesome. The tour was exactly what we had hoped for and more. Daryl was a big part of this.

Unfortunately this tour description is not as it seems. If you are okay 6-8 Adult sized people 4 crammed in the back on sideway bench style seats squeezed in a Land Rover for 8 hours, on a hot, sweaty day, with strangers and you're not Claustrophobic, this may be a great tour for you. We ended up getting off this tour in the first hour and catching a cab back to our hotel. After our last hotel pickup when they loaded the number 7 passenger in the Land Rover....it was just to much. The first hour was spent going around to hotels picking up passengers. This was already uncomfortable and likely to get worse in the next 7 hours. The driver had his seat pushed so far back, it would've been impossible and uncomfortable to put another person in the 2nd row seat. When people starting complaining about the number of people in the Land Rover and the comfort level, the driver said we could still fit one more and this was just the way it was done. For the lucky people who get to do this tour with just a few people in the Land Rover, this could be a great tour. We ended up wasting our only day in Crete and not seeing it because we got off this tour. I wish the description and details would've been clearer. I would've gladly paid more for a tour like this in a more comfortable situation with less people.

This was an amazing excursion. I would recommend everyone take this tour because it gives you a different perspective of Greece. Our driver Darryl was very informative and took his time explaining every detail to us. He is also very nice and we had a great time with him.

This was the highlight of our time in Crete! Our tour guide was friendly, funny, and very knowledgable. We learned SO much and also had such a blast! My only complaint is that the tour said there was breakfast and lunch included. Luckily, my husband and I ate breakfast at our hotel before the land rover picked us up, because we would've starved if we hadn't-- we were never served breakfast! We did, though, have a yummy lunch about halfway through the tour.

The tour was great. Our tour guide Jason went above and beyond. We learned a lot about Crete and its history. We had two little kids ages 10 and 4 and had concerns that the kids would not handle well such a long day, but because the tour was so well organized they had no problems. We highly recommend this tour.

Our tour guide did not disappoint in sharing his knowledge and love of Crete. We learned about history, geography, and traditions. We took our 15-year old twins and their friends and they weren't bored for one second because the tour moved along so well.

This was a great small group tour with a total of seven of us in the Landrover with our guide Darrell, a likeable, informative Englishman. My only small problem is that I sometimes had trouble understanding him because he was a very fast talker! But, the day was well spent climbing high into the mountains on dirt roads somewhat following the Minoan trail. We saw Griffon vultures with their giant wingspans, ancient remnants of acquaducts, and ancient windmills. We visited small villages, a small goat farm where cheese making was demonstrated by our guide, and then we were off to the mythological birthplace of Zeus. Our trip was topped off with a delicious Greek lunch and a final little tourist stop. The trip was a day well spent.
