What You Can Expect

Fraser Island 4WD Tour from Hervey Bay

Lake McKenzie

Find out why the Aboriginal people named Fraser Island K’Gari (paradise) on your full-day tour from Hervey Bay.

Get an early start with hotel pickup, then catch the ferry to Fraser Island. Upon arrival, travel in an air-conditioned 4WD coach across the rough roads and sandy beaches of this World Heritage-listed sand island.

Among the highlights, visit picture–perfect Lake McKenzie to take a dip in its clear water or lounge on its white–sand beach. Admire the crystal clear waters of Wanggoolba Creek, located in Central Station, the former headquarters for the island's timber industry. Walk through a rainforest valley with ancient king ferns, towering ghost gum and pine trees.

On Seventy-Five Mile Beach, drive down the sandy beach and look for birds of prey and migrating humpback whales (July – November). An optional 15-minute Fraser Island scenic flight is available there (own expense). The coach meets the plane when it lands further down the beach.

Stop at two iconic destinations: the colored sand cliffs of the Pinnacles and the Maheno shipwreck — wrecked during an out-of-season cyclone in 1935. Hear from your guide about local aboriginal legends and the geology behind the technicolor sand formations. Throughout the day, your guide shares informative commentary about the history, flora and fauna of the island.

Pull into a beach resort for a tasty buffet lunch and catch the ferry back to River Heads in the late afternoon. Your tour ends with hotel drop-off in Hervey Bay.

We had an amazing day with the excellent guide and driver Kev. Travelled w two kids ages 6 and 9. They got tired every now and then so pack some extra snacks, fruit or so. But overall they also enjoyed the day bumping in the bus fuelled with kangaroojuice.

It was well worth the money and the driver/guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. But if you have motion dickness in vehicles donot sit at the back of the bus.

The initial registration process was a bit confusing even though we checked in with the hut at River Heads. They took out Viator voucher but did not give us a coloured boarding pass for the buses on the island. It made us feel like we snuck on the bus. The tour itself was fantastic and gave us a real good overview of the key features on Fraser Island.

This was one of our favorite things we did in Australia. Fraser Island is a must see!! We were so glad we booked this excursion instead of trying to rent our own car. It was nice to have a tour guide drive us around and show us the highlights so we never felt lost or overwhelmed. Lake McKenzie was our favorite, and we would have loved to have had more time there. We never felt rushed though. Everything was beautiful, and our tour guide Barry was hilarious! The lunch buffet was a pleasant surprise - we thought it might just be sandwiches, but they had lots of delicious options. We really enjoyed the little gift shop as well. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour. :

I did the one day tour more than a month ago and it was fantastic !! Only the cloudy weather was the bad part.
Steve, our driver, is a lovely guy who knows everything about the island and therefore mad the visit very interesting. We saw 75-mile beach, the wreck, Ellie creek, the Pinnacles, McKenzie lake awesome and the rain forest. All wild nature and fresh water. No need for more.
The food also is very nice: free unlimited buffet !! My stomach was very happy :

I've also done the scenic flight which is worth the money. Yes 70AUD might seem expensive, but it is the cheapest flight I found in Australia, and I've done both East and West costs.

Fraser island is unarguably a highlight of the East cost and you have to go there if your in the area !! :

Friendly driver and guide Brian did a wonderful job. Very informative and approachable.Only lunch is included, so bring your own morning tea or snacks. I recommend this trip to everyone, especially first timers to Fraser Island. It is good to see the majestic forest growing back so that future generations may appreciate what it was like 100 years ago before logging.
