Travel round-trip from Kyoto by high-speed bullet train to take in Hiroshima's historic sites, including exhibits about the 1945 atomic bomb that devastated the city. Start your visit on a lighter note, traveling by boat to Miyajima, a famously beautiful island that is home to the revered Itsukushima Shrine. Have lunch there, then return to the city to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum. Your expert guide shares important details about Hiroshima's heartbreaking history and remarkable recovery throughout this unforgettable 12-hour tour.
  • 12-hour tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Island, from Kyoto
  • Discover the picturesque island of Miyajima
  • See the magnificent Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site
  • Visit the historic remains of the Genbaku Dome
  • Explore the exhibits at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
  • Includes all transportation and entrance fees
Start your day by meeting your guide at the New Miyako Hotel and transfering to Kyoto Station to board the bullet train for the scenic 2-hour ride to Hiroshima Station. As your train zips along, your guide introduces the history of Hiroshima, from ancient times to the devastation of World War II and on up to the present.
When you arrive in Hiroshima, travel to Miyajimaguchi either by train or coach, then transfer to a boat that takes you to Miyajima, a revered locale also known as the Sacred Island. It is most famous for the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Itsukushima Shrine and its picturesque torii gate, which appears to float on water at high tide. You may spot tame deer roaming free, adding to the ambiance of the island scenery. After about 45 minutes on the island, have lunch (own expense) then relax on the boat as you cruise back to Hiroshima.
In the afternoon, visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, your guide leads you through exhibits about the atomic bomb that devastated Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and the city's remarkable recovery post-World War II.
Take a bus or train to your tour's final destination, the Genbaku Dome (aka the Atomic Bomb Dome or Hiroshima Peace Memorial), one of the few buildings that survived the bombing. Nearby, the Children’s Peace Monument is draped with thousands of origami cranes made by children. The Atomic Bomb Memorial Mound contains the ashes of 70,000 bomb victims; many were unidentified or had no surviving relatives to claim their ashes.
When you have finished taking in Hiroshima, board the bullet train again at Hiroshima Station and travel back to Kyoto Station, where your tour ends upon arrival in the evening.

Some confusion at the meeting hotel when we arrived early, there was a small desk that said tours with no one there and the hotel staff was not sure. It would have been nice to have a sign on that desk with our tour Please wait here, until the hostess arrived. Otherwise, AMAZING, well organized. We were a varied group, some of us going as a day trip from Kyoto, some spending the night in Hiroshima. It made the tour interesting speaking with others who had many different experiences in Japan. A small group tour, they walk you to the bullet train and put you on the correct car with your return tickets inc. The scenic train ride feels like a private tour. An enthusiastic, professional hostess with perfect English met us at our train car. Our small tour bus grateful for AC during the heat wave of summer slowly passed old Castles and other sites, while our knowledgeable hostess told stories of history and culture. Taking the ferry to Miyajima she guided us where to stand to get the best views and well as tips for food and shopping during our free time after the tour of the beautiful shrine. After lunch own expense we ferried back to Hiroshima Peace Dome, memorial , childrens memorial and museum, all a profound experience of what never to allow again. Our experienced guide was one of the best we've ever had. This tour was a highlight of our incredible visit to Japan.

With much thanks to Nobu our tour guide, she was just excellent.

We very much appreciated our day trip from Kyoto of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima Island. The arrangements were all well executed, the guide in Hiroshima was very informative and helpful, and the overall tour well organized. My only complaint might be that there was not enough time at the museum in the memorial park, but given all that we had to cover I don't think it could have been extended. It was a long day, but well worth it!

This is a worthwhile day trip from Kyoto, somewhat impaired by the guide's inattention to her audience. Island and shrine was more interesting than I anticipated and atom bomb site was fascinating. Good logistics in pickup, train, and drop-off every step of the way.
Unfortunately, the guide--who seemed nice and knowledgable--seemed not to know how to use the microphone/speaker system affixed to her and oblivious to the fact that many people couldn't hear her much of the time as she faced away from her audience.

We had never heard of Miyajima Island before, but found it extremely interesting and a good introduction to the Shinto religion. Hiroshima was a deeply moving experience, especially the visit to the museum.

Amazing tour. Couldn't fault anything. Nobu, our guide was wonderful. So alloquant and poised when talking about the bomb that destroyed hiroshima. A must when visiting japan.

We did this tour from Kyoto as we already had our Green Rail Pass, there is a Shinkansen that gets into Hiroshima with plenty of time to connect to this tour, meeting place is in a hotel right next to the station and very easy to find, tour was fantastic, well organized and we had time to do and see what we wanted to, we were back at Hiroshima station in enough time to catch our Shinkansen back to Kyoto, a really great tour

Lovely tour guide who gave plenty of commentary and was interested in her job. Visit to the island not far from HIROSHIMA a bit of a tourist trap and better to have less time here and cover history of Hiroshima at the Museum more, and even a tour of the city while on the Bus.

Without a rail pass it isn't possible to book a reserved seat on the bullet train from Kyoto to Hiroshima from Australia. We knew we going to be be travelling during a major Buddhist holiday weekweekend so were worried if we didn't have train tickets booked ahead we wouldn't get to Hiroshima and Miyajima. Because of this we booked through Viator. It turned out to be a good decision on all fronts. The organisation was simply amazing and the tour guides provided insights you can't get by reading a travel guide. The major sites are unquestionably interesting. But the things we enjoyed most - talking to the various guides that helped us, because there are many on this trip. Someone takes you to Kyoto Railway station and puts you on the train, someone else meets your at the end point etc, etc - a level of help I haven't really experienced before, but great when you are jet lagged. Historical information aside we talked to our various tour guides about their families, their jobs, their own travels, their university experiences and shared our information with them. We are sorry we can't remember the name of the woman that took us to Kyoto Railway Station and the woman that conducted the site seeing trip from Hiroshima Station, they were both wonderful. We travelled on 19 August. The sites are iconic but the travel guides we had for this trip are even better and more interesting.
