Begin with 7am pickup at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, then make the trip to Cai Be, arriving at 9:30am. Visit a pair of local religious landmarks: see the Cao Dai temple, then stop by, Cai Be Cathedral, the place of worship for local Catholics. Board a motor boat to see two of Cai Be’s colorful markets, where vendors sell fresh fruit, vegetables, and handicrafts from boats and in stalls on the shore. This is the perfect time to chat with locals, and taste locally-grown fruits.
Continue in a smaller rowboat, so you can explore the tiny canals that connect homes and communities on the Mekong Delta. Return to the main motor boat for the trip to Tan Phong Island, where you can relax in the shade, cool off with a drink, and snack on fresh fruits.
Take a bike tour around the island, pausing to visit local workshops where handbags, rice paper, wooden tables, and chairs are made. If school is in session, you can stop by the village school, then visit a farmer’s house for a cup of tea and locally-made sweets. Ride to another workshop that specializes in classic, Vietnamese conical hats, then pause for lunch in an island restaurant. After lunch, make the return boat trip to Cai Be, and drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. This tour concludes with drop-off at your Ho Chi Minh City hotel.
