Mekong Delta Day Trip with Cooking Class and Cai Bei Floating Market Tour

At your Ho Chi Minh City hotel, climb aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and travel to the rural town of Cai Be, situated approximately 100 miles (160 km) southwest of the capital. Capture photographs of the alluring agricultural landscapes along the way then hop onto a motorboat on arrival in Cai Be.

Cruise around the Cai Be Floating Market, a commercial spectacle established in the 19th century. Marvel at boats replete with exotic produce and interact with locals in order to discover more about their stock. Next, disembark and stroll to the coconut candy factory to discover the manufacturing process of the sweet treats.

Purchase some candy to snack on, and then explore the small villages of the Mekong Delta with your guide. Feast your senses on the rich sights and smells of a fruit orchard and listen to melodious Vietnamese folk music known as don ca tai tu

Return to the water on a small boat and sail to Tan Phong Island to commence a cooking class in which the secrets of Vietnamese cuisine are revealed. Prepare delectable dishes inspired by regional recipes; typical dishes include braised fish, grilled steak and fried elephant-ear fish.

Digest your culinary classics then hop onto a bicycle to explore the orchards, bonsai gardens and winding streets of a local village. Sail back to Cai Be and relax during the return journey to your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.

This was a pleasant full day trip and quite relaxing. The Cai Be Floating Marker was a bit disappointing - there was not as much to it as the Thai equivalent outside Bangkok. The cooking class consisted only of making spring rolls and a salad. Despite that the trip was worthwhile.

Awesome experience and a must do if able to put on your itinerary. We went to the floating market on the Mekong Delta and our guide, Jay Jay, gave us a detailed historical overview of the whole area plus much about the current and past culture of the Vietnamese people. Very interesting on how the rice farmers operate, and then seeing the different businesses in the floating market area including candy making all topped off with a lunch we assisted in cooking and then the 2-3 man boat excursion through the forest on a narrrow river.....paddled by a guide.

A fantastic tour! Pick up was on time and vehicle was very comfortable. We loved stopping at the Mekong Delta rest stop for amazing coffee and breakfast. Frank the tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was pleasant to get to know and made us feel comfortable in his country. The tour itself was fun and we really enjoyed the itinerary, especially the Mekong Delta bike tour. Thank you for a great time!

Wonderful day. We enjoyed seeing the area from our mini-bus enroute to the river, and then we had a great look at floating markets and a beautiful town. The shop visit and other activities were just great, and kept the day moving along. Our guide was knowledgeable and very pleasant. This was a terrific value and a full and exciting day.

Excellent tour, highly reccommended. Our tour guide Frank was very knowledgeable and funny too. Floating market was not as busy as I thought, but we went during winter in December/January which is not tropical or fruit season. This trip included a mixture of some boat riding, short bicycle ride, cooking class and food factory tours. A bit of everything is a perfect mix.

Loved this tour! Our tour guide Yen was very informative and allowed us to enjoy the sights and smells of the Mekong. The coconut candy factory was great, it allowed us to sample their product before buying if we wanted to. No pressure. We didn't arrive early enough so we didn't see the hectic sights of the floating market but we were able to sample some fruits from a boat. We really enjoyed the boat ride through the canal, very peaceful and lush. The cooking class was fun. Really liked the bike ride through the small village. Would highly recommend this tour!

I have no complaints about this tour. Completely as descibed. The lunch was a lot better than some of the other tours I have been on. The size of our group was 10 people which I think was about right... small enough to have all your questions answered but large enough to still make some new friends. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
