What To Expect

Your day trip from Hobart starts with the approximate 1.5-hour drive by coach to the Tasman Peninsula, during which your guide will point out sights and provide commentary. Stop for morning tea, and then embark on your 3-hour cruise, taking in the stunning coastline of Tasman National Park.

Stare up at some of Australia’s tallest sea cliffs, enter deep sea caves, spot the lighthouse that guards Storm Bay, and keep your eyes open for seals and dolphins. With the boat’s covered open-air seating, you’ll have great viewing opportunities of the sea and shore.

When you return to land, enjoy lunch before spending the afternoon on a tour with your guide to peninsula attractions such as Remarkable Cave, the Federation Chocolate Factory and Port Arthur lavender Farm (alternatively, upgrade your ticket to include either the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park or Port Arthur Historic Site instead). Your day trip ends with the drive back to Hobart.

Upgrade Sightseeing Options

You can’t see everything in one day, but you can try! Customize the sightseeing to suit you. Instead of visiting local attractions like Remarkable Cave, Federation Chocolate Factory and Port Arthur lavender Farm you can choose one of these upgrade options:

Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park:

Get an up-close look at these iconic Australian animals at this wildlife center that features a free-flight bird show and a chance to watch feeding time for the Tasmanian devils.

Port Arthur Historic Site:

This former penal colony, part of the Australian Convict Sites UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to several old structures and ruins that were once home to prisoners, officers and guards. You have three hours to spend here learning about Australia’s penal history amid the landscaped grounds.

Overalls trip was good. Enjoyed a lot in Tasman Island cruise. Chocolate Factory and Lavender Farm stop were bit off and weren’t a great inclusion for the trip. Would like to see some other great inclusions.

Exciting Tasman boat ride! Fun and caring guides
Simon_G, Mar 2022
So exhilarating to have seen dolphins, twice! Along with fascinating rock formations, seals and sea birds. Skilful boat captains brought us on memorable thrill rides, helps a lot that they provide ponchos . The stops for Lavender and chocolate are also pleasing to the taste buds
Response from Host, Mar 2022
Dear Simon We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your Tasman Island Cruises day tour experience with us. It is a wonderful part of the world to explore. Cheers Melinda
Great Cruise but should not be bundled with other tours
George_W, Feb 2022
The close proximity to the majestic cliffs and brooding ocean swell were a unique experience captured perfectly by the competent and knowledgeable tour operator. Only 4 stars because the boat trip was bundled with visits to a chocolate factory and Port Arthur settlement which we had visited previously.
Response from Host, Mar 2022
Dear George Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your Tasman Island Cruises day tour experience. We are so glad to hear you enjoyed the cruise. You can self drive to Port Arthur to do the cruise, or our day tour options either include general regional sightseeing, entry to Port Arthur Historic Site or entry to the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo. Cheers Melinda

Must do
Greg_R, Jun 2021
Great day, you leave early but well worth it. Sam our driver was fantastic. Full of light hearted jokes but also knew his stuff. You would be happy to have him for the day. On the water was extra exhilarating we got a glimpse of 2 Southern Right whales and 2 Humpbacks, I must admit we were extra lucky. On board we had Isabel and Nick. Isabel looked after a few who got sick, they will offer ginger tablets and I think they worked. Nick the driver of our boat gave us plenty of times to see the cliffs and his commentary was first rate. Exhilaration and serenity all in one. This trip is a must do I will do it again, I was worried about it being to bumpy for my back (66) but strap in tight and all's well.
Response from Host, Jun 2021
Dear Greg We are so glad you enjoyed your Tasman Island Cruise and how amazing to see southern rights and humpbacks, I am very jealous. Thanks so much for taking the time to provide feedback. Cheers Melinda

Was a brilliant weather when I got on the cruise. Lots of active wildlife around. Seals feeding on tunas. Dolphins jumping and swimming around. Even caught a whale. View is nothing I have seen. Phil's a wonderful driver. Friendly and kind to all his passengers. And very passionate with his work.
This is a must try

Great morning tea and lunch provided. Wonderful views from the scenic stops. Shame the lighthouse was having work done on it, so couldn't climb up to the tower. Still took some good photos. Friendly guide who looked out for everyone. Thank you Nigel.

Well run & fun!
Katrina, Mar 2020
Great day out. The guides were so personable and made everyone feel at ease. (Thanks guys!) Enjoyed seeing the wildlife...dolphins, lots of seals and birdlife on and around the water. The Unzoo option meant seeing more Australian animals in a natural setting. The Kangaroos were the most tame I have ever seen...you could go right up to them and pat them! (Don't try this in the wild though!) It was lovely to meet and talk to others from places near and far.
