Guide was very knowledgeable and provided a lot of commentary throughout the journey. Some cute stops along the way including Doo town. They were also accomodating and let us change to visit the Tassie devils as they had already harvested the lavender.

Thought provoking and harrowing place

Our driver Trevor was a fantastic source of information. Trevor was punctual, patient with our group of 11, informative, and had a great sense of humour. Trevor’s passion for Tasmania and for his work as tour guide introducing visitors to Tasmania was wonderful. The tour was well organised and I enjoyed the lavender farm on the way to Port Arthur. Port Arthur is immensely historically interesting and harrowing. What struck me though is that in the modern day, people who are waiting for their cases to go to court (so not convicts but remanded) are also a 6 digit number often locked up in a small cell with another inmate for up to 23 hours a day. Covid has caused more lock-ins than ever. There is modern day romanticism and hero-worship of olden day convicts and a lot of sympathy for the terrible hardship, yet the same sympathy and empathy does not exist for modern day inmates. What was also horrific about Port Arthur was the treatment of mentally unwell convicts. The methods were not conducive to actual treatment and recovery. It was more about locking up, restricting and “managing” rather than compassionate care. Again, in the modern day with so many cuts to government funding, how much better is our treatment of mentally ill people especially those in prisons? And look how poorly the people in aged and disability care are often treated. Port Arthur is thought provoking. The past is not that remote. We need to do better in the modern day.

Our tour guide Trevor was very informative... he s very funny and knowledgeable.. shared with us many stories and secret gems. I learnt so much abt Tassie in that one day... great tour!!!
Highly recommended, absolutely amazing.

We had a wonderful day. Our tour guide was absolutely amazing. He was very knowledgeable and narrated the history of the places we went and that made it even more interesting. Unfortunately the lavender farm was closed due to restoration though the shops and cafe was open. Apart from that we had wonderful time at Port Arthur, did a 30 minute cruise, went to Richmond and few other places. We'd highly recommend. We had a memorable experience.

Good tour
Lorraine_G, May 2021
Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We found the mini bus very uncomfortable as we were in the single seats and I nearly fell off the seat every time we went around a corner! I was also disappointed that we were encouraged not to visit the lavender farm and we didn’t find out until the end of the day that we wouldn’t be going to the chocolate factory, no explanation given. Apart from that everything was great, lots of stops to take photos, get coffee etc and our guide went out of his way to drop us back right outside our hotel
Knowledgeable guide

Good experience. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. However, did not get to go see the Lavender Farm since it’s freshly cut. Nonetheless the alternative Zoo tour was great too
Fascinating step back into history.
Robert_D, Apr 2021
The guide was very informative. Port Arthur was fascinating and lots to see. I enjoyed the relaxing feel at the lavender farm. We went to Richmond a historic town. The bus was full and not very comfortable and many hours spent in it hence the four stars.
I would recommend this tour really enjoyed it. Tour guide was great with lots of interesting stories.
Sue_B, Mar 2021
Loved the cliff walk. Learning the history of Port Arthur and the convicts was so interesting. The boat trip topped it all off.
Stunning bush walk, excellent guide
Daniel_E, Feb 2021
Make sure you go with Nick - a fantastic tour guide who is very friendly, fun, and knowledgeable about virtually any topic (local history, politics, animals, birds, scenery, etc). Fantastic tour with many surprises - the bush walk from Devil’s Kitchen to Tasman Arch was a nice surprise with breathtaking views. Lavender white chocolate ice cream was incredible, and seeing Port Arthur was well worth it, particularly if you just want the highlights rather than spending a day there.
Fantastic tour

A lovely day trip from Hobart

I loved this tour! The views along the Tasman Peninsula are spectacular. There's a bit of walking involved, but well worth it for the vantage points. We stopped at the lavender farm around lunch time. The smell is not overpowering at all. It's a quaint little area where there is plenty of beautiful blooming lavender in the field. Just gorgeous! I cannot recommend the cafe enough. It's clean and bright and the food was delicious. A lot of the menu had lavender in the ingredients. I'd never tried it before, so I gave it a go and found it to be very nice. There's also a lovely gift shop attached to the cafe. Port Arthur is a pretty town and we were given plenty of time to look around. There was the option of taking a guided walking tour or just doing it on your own and reading up on the history as you go. I particularly liked walking around the old penitentiary. There's also the chance to do a boat ride. It wasn't very long (only about 15-20 minutes) but it was a nice little rest after walking around. I didn't eat at the cafe because I'd already had lunch however it looked very crowded. We got back into Hobart late afternoon. Our tour guide's name was Connor. He was very knowledge and friendly. Overall, it was a fantastic day.
