Meet a guide by the well in front of Hoi An market, and walk to a nearby wooden house for the paper art class. Find out about the background and process behind Truc Chi art in a 15-minute documentary, then begin your class; with group sizes limited to 4 participants, this workshop offers personalized instruction and teaching.
Before you work the bamboo, is has already been steamed from the fiber bamboo tree, then processed with water, wood fire, and a limestone solution for more than 12 hours, and beaten for 4 hours.
Mix bamboo pulp with water, then use a silk screen to capture a thin layer of pulp in an even sheet. Use a hose like a ‘water pen,’ creating designs in the surface of the pulp. Let your piece dry naturally in the sun for 3 hours, or use a hot air dryer to set it in 30 minutes.
At the end of this class, you’ll take home a 16 x 16 inch (40 x 40 cm) completed piece of artwork.
