Full-Day Whale Shark Snorkeling Adventure in Isla Mujeres

The boat ride out was extremely rough and takes a little over an hour. If you have any type of back or neck problems, you should be warned. Lots of people throwing up due to having to stay on boat while only 2 people are allowed to go in the water at a time. Very short experience with whale.

We went out to see the whale sharks with Isla fun tours for the second time this week. We had an exceptional time on Monday so we went again on Wednesday. We enjoyed our trip with Felipe and Lolo immensely. We had a beautiful experience with these gentle sharks! Felipe was an excellent and friendly guide and Lolo did a fantastic job spotting sharks for us. A great time was had by all. A memory of a lifetime! Thank you!!

We started the day early, meeting at the departure point on isla mujeres (we took the ferry there ourselves). An isla fun tours crew person met us at the departure point and started giving us instructions and setting expectations for the day. We had a chance to use the bathroom, and not long after, our boat arrived. Onboard the crew was great, they were easy to understand and clear with their instructions. The water was calm with very little bumps and no one got sick at all. We took about 40 minutes driving out to the whale shark location, meanwhile they provided flippers, goggles, and snorkels to each person and gave us instructions/tips. Once at the location we saw lots of other boats doing the same thing. Our captain started gently steering the boat on the path of a whale shark. Then the ten passengers (paired into groups of two) would each take turns jumping when instructed, and have a few minutes to try and keep up with the whale shark. We were beginners (never snorkeled before) but we were able to see the whale sharks up close on both of our dives. The second one went much better as we fastened our snorkels and goggles better, and focused on keeping our heads in the water. Once each pair had taken two dives we returned to isla mujeres. During the return trip we were offered water and sandwiches. Once back at isla mujeres, the boat was parked at a beach while the crew prepared ceviche. We all had a chance to swim around the beach for a moment before eating the ceviche which was delicious. After all this, we returned to the original meeting point. It was a fun and unique experience. The crew helped make the whole process smooth.

Memorable moment was seeing the whale sharks up close. The only con is to many tourists in the water.

We had a wonderful time! The tour guides were great! We highly enjoyed the tour and experience. I'd do it again hands down. I left my phone in the van when we got dropped off at the marina. I made one phone call and it was brought to me in minutes. I had multiple questions throughout the booking process and they were all answered promptly. Highly professional tour provider!

The boat the tour company I went with had a nice boat, very nice guides, and much nicer than the other 100 tour boats that harass the whale sharks all at the same time in the same place. The tour company I'm reviewing is the one I reserved the tour with, who, without telling me in advance, gave me to another tour company who took me instead on their behalf. The company I was given to was great, though I would have appreciated some communication with me on this, as I have family who needs to know where I am and which company I went with for safety reasons. This is an extremely long boat trip on the open ocean that in my case left from Playa del Carmen and then went to Cancun and then doubled back to the whale site which seemed like hours of boat travel. It is really really important to take dremadine prior to this trip, which is something I wish had been mentioned in the descripion as an item to take with you. I did see whale sharks, but it's not like you get to just float around and look at them for awhile, which is what I was imagining. Whale sharks are swimming fast so you have to jump into the water and you maybe get 15 to 30 seconds to see them before they rapidly swim out of view. I got to go in for two times, so I saw about 30 seconds to a minute of whale shark total on the whole trip.

Talk about a WOW moment - this is it. We saw about 20 whale sharks, most were small about 20 feet long but perfect!! The operators aligned the swimmers as close to the whale shark as possible to enter the water. The first jump I was within about 1 foot and had to back up to get out of the way. These animals are magnificent and so amazing to see up close and personal. I got some great photos - take an underwater case for your phone or a go pro etc. It's an hour boat ride into the ocean so if you have a tendency toward sea sickness take something so you don't miss anything. You get only about 3-5 min in the water on each of your 2 jumps but considering this is the law not the operators this was good. The animals are surrounded by people so short water time - less stress for them - hopefully. I would take this trip again with this company. Don't miss this opportunity - also they make great ceviche.

The experience was Fantastic! Lolo and Felipe did a great job for us. They made sure we got to snorkel with the whale sharks and it was so exciting! They are really large fish and it was awesome to be so close to observe them. While this is a memorable experience, it is not for first time snorkelers. You are out in the middle of the ocean and you have to respond without hesitation and know how to move quickly in the water. It totally overwhelmed some of the other people on our boat.

Swimming next to the whale was incredible experience . Day was a memorable experience that we will not forget.

Experiencia de nado con el tiburón ballena muy bonita eso sí el día que hacía no era el más adecuado para hacer la excursión ya que el mar estaba intratable y la solas hicieron quede siete que estábamos en la lancha vomitaramos en altamar seis, Además echamos en falta falta de información por parte del guía, sobre el tiburón, alimentación método de vida, modo de vida y demás curiosidades. Tan solo nos contó que había que saltar rápido de la lancha y nadar rápido porque el tiburón ballena nadaba muy rápido. Me quedo con que lo pudimos ver el resto fue un mal rato en altamar tanto en el trayecto de ida como de vuelta con el mal cuerpo que nos produjo a todos los que embarcábamos como turistas de la misma.
