What You Can Expect

Private Istanbul Food Walking Tour of Kadikoy

Enjoy a cup of authentic Turkish coffee

Your Karaköy culinary discovery tour begins with a scenic ferry ride over the Bosphorus Strait to Istanbul’s Asian side. Get your walking shoes and taste buds ready to explore Istanbul’s less-visited side. Meet your private guide who will kick off the tour with some pertinent background information about the symbiosis between Turkey’s history and food culture — especially its spices.

Start at the local street markets, where you’ll find fish and vegetables as well as friendly stall owners and an array of colors to stimulate the senses. Learn about foods that are native to the region and local delicacies, like green plums and unripe melons, and about local dining customs.

Delve deeper along the cobblestone paths of Kadıköy, to hidden local eateries and small markets. Your guide will take you to places packed with locals — not tourists. While dishes change from day to day, examples include kofte (meatballs), stuffed mussels, and sun-dried fruit. Sample Turkish yogurt with homemade honey and local raw buffalo cheese.

Because no food tour is complete without sampling local drinks, try authentic Turkish beverages like a frothy yogurt drink. Although the samples amount to a generous meal, be sure to leave space for Turkey’s famously sweet treats, such as baklava.

Top off the tour with a potent cup of Turkish coffee, then bid farewell to your private guide and continue exploring Istanbul on your own.

Exceptional tour. Our guide Jimmy, showed us a variety of different foods from spices, meats, honey, coffee, sweets, cheeses, preserves and fresh fruit and vegetables. Jimmy provided the historical context behind the foods. We ate so much, I would recommend not having breakfast beforehand! An excellent insight into Turkish food.
