I had a great day exploring Johannesburg and Soweto with Solly and a small group of others. Solly was so knowledgeable and packed so much into one day. I was a little nervous to be travelling through Johannesburg solo but I can honestly say this was an enjoyable experience and really showed such a positive view of the city. I’d recommend Solly and his team, esp to other solo female travellers.
I had the most wonderful tour. Solly was excellent and knowledgeable tour guide. I was so touched and moved by what the people had endured. Anybody who cares about human rights, history, and reform should come take a tour with Solly. What a powerful and educationally packed tour. A must do for any tourist and to learn the history.
If you don't sign up for this exact tour run by Solly and his Phillipians Four company, you will be doing yourself a massive disservice. In my opinion, if you only have time for 1 tour while in Joburg, this is the one to do! Solly is the very definition of what an excellent tour guide should be. He should be held up as a role model to teach tour guides across the world what it means to be an absolute professional and beacon of knowledge. We covered a massive amount of ground in one day and along the way were given an indepth history of South Africa and it's tumultous history. There is a reviewer here that mentioned Solly talked too much. I don't want to be rude to other guests who leave comments here but why would you hire a tour guide and not want them to talk? If you just want to be driven places, then just Uber around town. I sign up for tours so I can have a knowledgable tour guide who not only takes me to the sights to be seen but gives me insights into everything my eyes are gazing upon. I loved this tour so much that if I ever find myself back here in South Africa, I will definitey book this tour again!
I decided to book this tour with friends on our one free day in Johannesburg as it got great reviews. However, what it did not say was that this was an 8 hour long history lesson of Africa. Solly did not stop talking the whole 8 hours. He repeated himself constantly and did not like it when people would go to take pictures or did not stay with the group. I don't mind a little history of the country but after 4 hours I just wanted a little peace and quiet. I would really have loved to here about the city now. Education, jobs, how people live, the economy ect. Solly did allow us to ask questions the last 20 minutes of the tour but many times could not answer them no matter how we reworded it. He also had no water for us on the bus, so we had nothing to drink, even tho we asked.
I would not recommend this tour unless you really like to hear someone talk for 8 hours straight and not come up for air. It was in no way a fun tour. If they had Uber in Jo'burg we would have gotten one back to the hotel at hour 4.
Wonderful day and great tour with Solly, our guide. It's a really interesting and educational tour, Solly told us the history of South Africa with many details. Solly is a very kind person, nice and prepared.Really recommended
This was an excellent tour! My previous experience with Viator in the United States told me that I could count on them for providing professional services and as usual they did not disappoint. This is particularly important for me who is currently a female traveller. Solly my guide arrived promptly and was very professional. He narrated the history of Johannesburg as though he was reading from the pages of a history book. I learned so much from this tour. I highly recommend it!
This is a must do tour while in Johannesburg. Our guide, (Solly) was very well versed in the history of Johannesburg. He made sure he covered all of the highlights. He was very patient in answering all of our questions. Solly embodied the true spirit if customer service. I doubt anyone else could have made this tour any more memorable than he did. If I was able to rate this tour higher than 5 stars, I would definitely do so.
Our three week safari trip ended in Johannesburg. We had a free day before flying home in the evening. We felt that a visit to Johannesburg would not be complete without a tour of Soweto. I am so glad we joined this tour. Our tour guide Solly showed up on time with a clean car. On this particular day there were just two of us - my wife and myself. So it really felt like a private tour. We visited all the places as mentioned in the tour descriptions. Solly provided in depth information about the places we visited and answered all our questions. We had enough time for most of the places, including the Nelson Mandela House. And Solly seems to be a popular guy in the neighborhoods we visited! At the end of the tour, Solly gave us a ride to the airport. I would recommend this tour to everyone.
