What You Can Expect

Juneau Shore Excursion: Helicopter and Airboat Tour of Taku Glacier

Helicopter and Airboat Tour

Your 3-hour shore excursion in Juneau begins with a helicopter flight (max of six passengers per helicopter). Soar over Tongass National Forest, which covers most of southeastern Alaska, and marvel at ice-capped mountains and hanging glaciers. Your informative pilot gives you tips on sighting wolves, bears and birds along the way.

Touch down near Taku River, and put on a full-body thermal survival suit (provided) for your airboat ride. Drifting along Taku River, snap photos of Taku Glacier that show just how close you are to the largest glacier formation in the Juneau Icefield. Taku reaches approx. 36 miles (58 km) in length. Pass floes of varying hues of blue, and learn about the rare glacier that is still growing rather than receding.

Depending on when you visit, you may spot wildlife like moose, bears, caribou, wolves, mountain goats or migratory birds. Gain insight into wild-salmon spawning grounds on Taku Watershed’s freshwater channels.

After the airboat ride, you’re back in your helicopter. Your pilot makes a smooth landing on Taku Glacier. Take a guided walk on the glacier for up-close views of blue ice, plunging crevasses and other glacial shafts. Take a commemorative shot that is sure to impress family and friends back home.

Then, enjoy aerial views of the wilderness one last time during your flight back to Juneau.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:

We will ensure your excursion ends with ample time for you to return to Juneau port for your ship’s departure. In the extremely unlikely event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

5 star rating: Highly Recommended June 2016

It could not have been better!! From the young women that picked us up at the dock (right in time ) to the airboat pilot, helicopter pilot more than we expected. They were very knowledgable of the area, friendly yet professional and fun. very big on safety too. Had a once in a lifetime experience.
