Juneau Shore Excursion: Tongass Wildlife Kayaking Adventure

Tongass Wildlife Kayaking Adventure

Enjoy an easy-to-moderate level Juneau kayaking shore excursion while your ship is docked in port. Get away from the crowds and onto the water for spectacular views and marine wildlife sightings! Our passenger van transports you to a remote paddling location north of downtown Juneau where your guide will choose a paddling route based on tides, weather, and the best chances of seeing wildlife for the day. Travel with your certified guide for about 30 minutes, passing Herbert, Mendenall and Eagle glaciers en route, before arriving at a private beach site located near Yankee Cove and Amalga Harbor.

Receive a safety briefing, get fitted into your gear and board a tandem kayak. This is an easy-to-moderate level paddle, meaning novices and families alike will enjoy the kayaking journey.

After getting outfitted and given a safety briefing by your guides, you’ll take an interpretive trail walk through the temperate rainforest where you'll then arrive and launch from a private beach in a tandem sea kayak. Paddle for about two and a half hours, looking for wildlife and enjoying the scenic wilderness while keeping a look out for humpback whales, orca, harbor seals, sea otters, steller sea lions, dall’s porpoise, eagles, heron and other marine birds as well as land mammals such as Sitka black tailed deer, porcupine, and black bear along the shore.

From glacier views to mountain views, marine wildlife to temperate rainforest, our scenic paddling locations on this trip are endless!

Perfect! We were a small group of 4 with mixed experience kayaking. The boats (Current design, like my boat at home!) were terrific and the rest of the equipment was first class! Our guide Miles was knowledgable, enthusiastic and lots of fun! This excursion was one of the highlights of our trip in AK! The scenery was wonderful, and we got to see lots of eagles, salmon and a even a lone seal came close to our boats. We will recommend to our friends and will put it on our list of things to do again!

This was without a doubt the highlight of my entire Alaska vacation. We paddled out about two and a half miles and on our way back we came across a young humpback whale who was feeding in a cove. Even without seeing him this would have been the trip of a lifetime but that was icing of the cake. The weather was ideal and our guide was fabulous.

Megan and Brock were great guides! I was sort of dissapointed because we didn't do or see much after all the exhausting trouble of putting on all the equipment they provide you and carrying everything to and from the dropping zone.
