Discover the majesty of the UNESCO-listed Jomon Sugi, one of the oldest living trees in the world, on an 11-hour trekking tour of Yakushima Island from the Kumage District. Ideal for nature lovers and active travelers, this excursion involves a challenging 5-hour hike to Jomon Sugi, an ancient cedar tree that scientists predict to be between 2,000 and 7,200 years old. Your hiking excursion begins with hotel pickup between 4am and 4:30am. Please ensure you come prepared with suitable hiking shoes, waterproof gear, and a backpack.
During the journey to Yakushima island, which involves a ferry and a bus, you’ll enjoy a bento breakfast and learn about the Jomon period in Japanese history.
Then, following a bus ride from the city, you’ll embark on a 5-hour hike along the Anbo River, which becomes more challenging for the final two hours.
Finally, you’ll be rewarded with the sight of the UNESCO-listed Jomon Sugi, an ancient cedar that boasts the title of one of the oldest living trees in the world. Capture photographs inside the stumps of other enormous cedar trees before following the same route back and concluding your experience with hotel drop-off.
