What You Can Expect

Stream Climbing Experience in Yakushima

Enjoy stream climbing

Begin your day of stream climbing with convenient pickup at your hotel in the Kurio or Anbo area. Equipped with long pants and a long-sleeved shirt, you should be ready between 8am and 8:30am. Climb into a comfortable tour vehicle with your group of just four people or fewer and head for the island's ancient warm-temperate forest.

Following your guide, try out the traditional Japanese method of stream climbing, known as sawanobori. Stop frequently to take in the views and landscape of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed area, populated with Japanese cedar, clear water streams, and granite boulders. Access a sparkling waterfall that not many visitors get to experience.

After 3.5 hours, get dropped off back at your original departure point.
