  • Day trip from Tokyo to Kamakura and Enoshima
  • See the Great Buddha of Kamakura at Kotoku-in and Hokoku-ji Temple, famous for its bamboo grove
  • Enjoy a Japanese-style lunch and visit a tearoom with views of a rock garden
Take a break from fast-paced Tokyo as you journey back in time to the serene temples, shrines and gardens of Kamakura on this 8- to 9.5-hour day trip.
Begin your excursion with a pickup from Shinjuku Keio Plaza Hotel or the Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal. Then head out by coach for a 30-mile (50-km) ride south to the city Kamakura, situated on Japan’s Sagami Bay. Start your Kamakura visit at Jomyo-ji Temple, enjoy matcha — powdered green tea — amid the refined and tranquil ambiance of a 400-year-old tearoom that looks out over a Japanese rock garden.
Later visit Hokoku-ji Temple, a renowned temple whose highlight is its beautiful bamboo grove, and then the city’s famous Great Buddha, located at the complex of Kotoku-in Temple. This renowned bronze statue, dating to 1252, is considered a national icon. Peek inside the statue’s hollow interior, then gaze at the entirely of the figure, which towers over 43 feet (13 meters) high.
Enjoy a Japanese style lunch and then head to Enoshima. Enoshima is a small island featuring some of the closest sandy beaches to Tokyo and it's a popular destination for locals. The tour concludes in Tokyo.

Well first, my experience was really great mostly because our group was super small. Only eight people so it wasn’t rushed and went very smoothly. Second, it was amazing because of our tour guide, Tak. He was so friendly and funny and kept everyone in order. He was great at explaining the history of things and teaching us the proper shrine etiquette. I really want to go back to Kamakura and spend time in their downtown but everything we saw was amazing and well worth the price. The Japanese lunch we had was beyond my expectations as well.

Our guide Pake really made this trip fantastic. He informed us of what we were seeing while injecting his own experiences and with a great sense of humor.

A well managed tour with plenty of free time to yourself in Kamakura but more importantly in Enoshima too. Good lunch provided, comfortable coach. A full day, tour may not finish at the same place you started as the Hamamatsucho bus terminal closes early - we were dropped at Shinjuku station which was OK for us as we knew the metro quite well by then.

A great day trip with a key guide who was so funny. We met some lovely fellow travelers from around the globe - even one lady who lives about 10 minutes from where we do. We had a great day even though it was long - lots of traffic coming home during peak cherry blossom season but our tour guide tried really hard to keep everyone engaged and happy.

Tea ceremony was far too simplified. Lunch was so so.

A lovely and peaceful day seeing a more traditional side of Japan right outside Tokyo. Good diversity of sights a bamboo forest, a tea house, the bay, the Buddha.

Everything was good

That was a really nice trip. We set out at 8:50 and finished in Shinjuku at about 5pm. Everything was well-planned, we were given enough time to explore the area on our own and take pictures. My BF and I would really love to thank our guide Amy for her organizational skills, as well as for her kindness and willingness to answer all of our questions. On our way back, she helped everyone with getting back to their hotels and finding a place to shop for souvenirs. We had another trip with a different guide who was unattentive to our needs and unwilling to answer our questions let alone the fact that no gear was provided for that trip for some reason, as well as too fast, no one could keep up the pace. Though I have to note that some people may find it difficult to comprehend Japanese English, at least, we did at some point. And yeah, lunch was amazing!
As for Tokyo Bay, we didn't really see much of it. We just drove past it. So if you actually want to get a closer look at the bay, this trip is not a good choice.
Guys, be there in advance, no one's gonna wait for you if you are late. We planned to go to Mt. Fuji two days later but were 15 min late for our bus because of the train. We were told that it had already left and they couldn't reschedule the trip unless you book the same trip once again. So if you miss the bus, there's nothing they can do about it.
