Hands down our best experience in Kyoto! We learned so much about the symbolism and practicalities of traditional Japanese architecture. Our guides were lovely and made a big effort to get to know us, and the artisans we got to meet were so friendly and welcoming. If you're even the slightest bit interested in traditional architecture, you HAVE to do this tour!

This experience was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto! It's a fascinating behind the scenes look at how the iconic Japanese roofs of temples and shrines are constructed. One key element of the roofs is the placement of Gargoyles, and we so enjoyed touring the workshop where they are designed and created. Everything we learned during this tour made our subsequent visits to the shrines and temples much more interesting and fun because we were able to identify the various Gargoyles at each location.
If you have any interest in architecture and craftsmanship, this is the tour for you!
