What You Can Expect

Nagarkot Sunrise View and Day Hiking from Kathmandu

Countryside view from Nagarkot.

Start your day with early morning pickup at your hotel in Kathmandu, departing the city while the sky is still dark, around 4am – 5am depending on the season.

Your private vehicle follows the 27-mile (42-km) road to Nagarkot Hill  where you get the chance to watch the sun rise over the mighty Himalayas. On a clear day, you can see Gosainkunda, Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and the Annapurna Mountains.

Stop at a restaurant in Nagarkot for breakfast (own expense), then follow your guide along the trail to Changu Narayan, a route that passes through Brahmin and Tamang villages with terraced farms on hillsides that overlook Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayas. The trek is mostly downhill, offering an easy hike that is suitable for most people.

Hike for as long as four hours to reach Changu Narayan Temple, one of the least–visited of Nepal's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Artisans in the Newari village create wood and stone carvings. Have the option to try Newari dishes for lunch (own expense) and experience the hospitality of the local people.

After lunch, a private vehicle returns you to your Kathmandu hotel where your tour ends.

Had an amazing experience with a beautiful sunrise. Things went perfectly smoothly and our guide Pankaj was knowledgeable and very helpful, would definitely recommend asking for him when booking this tour.

The sunrise view was very beautiful. We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast which was an additional NPR1,250 per person. The hike was nice for us, and we walked a total of about 13km. The first part of the walk was through villages where you get a glimpse of local life, while the second part of the walk was through quiet forests. The pick-up and drop-off from the hotel was fuss-free. The local Nepalese guide was also friendly and able to answer our questions on life in Nepal. Overall, we enjoyed our day hiking tour.

The experience of the sunrise at Nagarkot was great. The sunrise at the top of the mountain with the views of the Himalayas was beautiful and very enjoyable. After this wonderful experience we began the trekking side of the tour. Our tour guide Jasmine was very good and very nice with us and we had plenty of chatting during the experience. The walk from Nagarkot downwards is very easy and non demanding. The guide adapted to ourwalking pace and provided us with plenty of information. The walk includes passing by little villages and terraces with the Himalayas in the background as well as a couple of very interesting and recommendable temples. If we were to return to Nepal we would definitely do this type of tour again.

A nice and relaxing tour, a great break from Kathmandu. The tour starts with visiting Club Himalaya to watch sunrise from the terrace while sipping coffee. Unfortunately, it was not clear and we couldn't see the mountains, but the view was still very beautiful and the birds made up with the sound effects. Our tour guide Madan was very respectful and patient, he provided insightful tips when needed and gave us privacy throughout most of the hike. The hike ended at the Changunarayan temple.

The vehicle was a little older than on other tours that we have taken, but was very clean. Just make sure you take a mask to protect yourself from the dusty roads.

Being short for time on our 3 day whistle stop tour of Nepal we decided to book this tour to give us a taste of the Nepali Mountains and hiking.
The tour did not disappoint. We were collected early morning and driven to watch the beautiful sunrise over the mountains. The driver got us there early so we managed to get a fantastic spot.
We then had a delicious traditional breakfast in one of the mountain villages before heading off down the hill on our Trek. Our gide Hari was fantastic and very patient. This trip really shows you what rural Nepali living is like, you also get to visit some amazing temples and the views are unbelievable. Highly Recommend.

This tour was amazing! Started the day off with a beautiful, peaceful sunrise over the mountains. After a good 1.5 hours gazing at the sun, had some Nepali milk tea and roti for breakfast which was delicious, and began the hike. I really enjoyed walking through rural villages and ending at the Changu Narayan Temple. Our guide answered our questions and was excited to share his culture with us. Would definitely recommend this hike!

Very interesting walk through the small villages - fascinating to see how people live in the country side. Lots of wildlife too - especially exotic birds. Unfortunately it was misty on the day so no views of the mountains - but still very enjoyable.
