What You Can Expect

Ketchikan Shore Excursion: Rainforest Zipline Adventure

Ketchikan Zipline

After pickup from Ketchikan port, travel to Herring Cove, located about 8 miles (13 km) south of the town. After this pleasant drive along the coastline, climb aboard a 4x4 Mercedes Unimog for a bumpy ride uphill to a canopy chalet in Tongass National Forest where the zipline course is located.

Receive a safety briefing and get fitted with state-of-the-art equipment. While prior ziplining experience is not necessary, this circuit was designed for those who have done it in the past and/or seeking more of a challenge. No matter your skill level, your two professionally trained guides are present on the platforms throughout the course to ensure you take off and land safely.

Scamper up to the first platform, and then you’re off! Soar through thick woods of hemlock, spruce and cedar trees. Begin with a zipline of 100 feet (30 meters) in length and build your courage up to the heart-stopping 850-foot-long (260-meter-long) cables, named ‘Ben’s Revenge.’ In total, you’ll fly along eight dual-cable ziplines.

Salmon-spawning streams, tidal estuaries, bald eagles and black bears are all part of your aerial tableaus. When your feet touch the ground again, your thrills continue with three hanging bridges and a nature walk to see forest highlights like Eagle Creek Falls.

Leave the rain forest behind on the final zipline, which takes you to a 55-foot-high (17-meter-high) viewing tower over a grassy wetland. Soak up lush forest views and return to base camp. Receive a commemorative medal for your zipline-valor, and then enjoy a snack and hot drink (provided).

Your half-day Ketchikan shore excursion ends with drop-off back at port — before leaving camp, don’t forget to look over the pictures taken during your adventure (available for purchase at the General Store).

Greg and Jessie were fantastic. The zipline was thrilling, our guides were always checking our equipment, we never felt like our adventure through the rain forest canopy was risky. Great scenery from the treetops.

Best experience of our Alaska cruise. Skyler and Melissa were the best. First time on a zip line and they made it very comfortable. Excellent views. We had not seen any bears on our trip yet and we told Melissa that what we wanted to experience. She told us to do bear dance and then we saw 3 bears.

It was a great excursion! We weren't too sure that we wanted to go ziplining because we are 56 and 64, leary of heights, and rain was forecast, but so glad we did! Even though is was RAINING and the winds were more than 20 mph, we LOVED it! They provided us with rain gear and fun guides to explain everything to keep us safe and almost dry. This was our favorite excursion on our Alaskan trip! Tony and I think the girl was Abby not sure, but both were super sweet and encouraging along the way.

It was fantastic!! Our guides, Randy and Krista were the bomb!! We lucked out because there were only 4 of us that day, not including the 2 guides. They were both thorough and accommodating and I would recommend this excursion to everyone!!! Thanks for making my first Zip....so wonderful!!!

This was so cool! Something I hand always wanted to do and wasn't disappointed. The guides were great, funny and very knowledgeable. Yes, it was scary, but exhilarating and super fun. The Tongass National Rainforest is a very special place. We saw eagles and a bear fishing for his dinner and the views are spectacular. I'd do it again in a minute!
