What You Can Expect

Rhine River Cruise from Koblenz to St Goare: Loreley Rock, Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and Koblenz Cable Car

Enjoy the romantic scenery of the Rhine valley!

Your full-day tour of the stunning Rhine Gorge begins at your leisure from Koblenz. Depending on your vacation schedule, choose a morning or afternoon start time, then make your way to the embarkation point near the Deutsche Eck on the Rhine promenade. Climb aboard the KD sightseeing boat and grab a comfortable seat on the outside deck or in the spacious indoor saloon.

The float to St. Goare takes approximately 3.5 hours, so sit back, listen to interesting onboard commentary and admire lovely views of castles, fortresses, vineyards, rustic villages and the breathtaking Loreley Rock, a mythic slate rock jutting 427 feet (130 meters) from the river.

Hop off the boat in the lovely village of St. Goare. Take as much time as you’d like to independently explore the town, browse for souvenirs like a signature cuckoo clock, sample local beer or have a relaxing meal (own expense). For a dose of medieval German architecture, purchase a visit to Stiftskirche or Rhienfels Castle. When you’re ready to depart, head back to the dock for the return trip to Koblenz.

Included in your excursion is roundtrip passage on the Koblenz cable car — the longest in Europe outside of the Alps — and admission to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Your tickets are good all day, so choose to start or end your tour with this epic ride up to the 2,789 feet (850 meters) dropoff. From this lofty vantage point, marvel at unbeatable views of the UNESCO-listed gorge, then take you time touring the grand fortress and its historic museum.

Excellent value for money, although the weather was a bit dull, there was plenty of sights to see and great photo opportunities. The crew were very helpful and attentive to our needs. Good food and drink made this a very pleasant trip. Recommended.

Tour from Koblenz to St Goar was great. We also rode the cable car but didn't have enough time to explore. I would highly recommend both of these.

We wanted to take the 9AM river trip. We got to the kiosk at 8:45 and it took until 9:10 before the line got to the front. We were then told that we had to take the 2 PM trip because you had to take the fortress trip first - there was no 9 AM river trip. Very confusing. End result was that we were not back to Koblenz until 8 PM and were unable to see the things we planned for the later afternoon when we thought we would be back from the morning cruise.

The Rhine River Cruise was delightful with the option to stop at the towns along the way. Even though the cruise started early, we could not spend , much time at the fortress. It would have been nice if our vouchers allowed for a two day option...cruise on day one and ride the gondola and tour the fortress on day two. Both were exciting and required more time than was allotted in one day.

The cruise was a pleasant way to see the many sights along the Rhine. Viator info was incomplete and caused us to get a very poor deal. We got to Koblenz before the 2:00 cruise to take the cable car to the fort, but the KD kiosk was closed for a 1 Hr lunch. We had to purchase tix adding to cost.

Unfortunately, we booked our tickets online. We did not receive the 30 discount applying to over 60s. We requested this but were told that as we had booked online we would have to request the discount to be repaid to the card used for the booking via the internet site. I am making that request now.
Thank you in advance.

Enjoyed the beautiful scenery but was disappointed with information on the boat for stops and what was at each. The crew didn't speak good English and we didn't speak German so it was hard to communicate. Trip would have been nicer had there been a detailed guidebook of what there is to see in each village, times of operation and business's names and what they offer.
