Begin with 7:30am pickup at your hotel in Kota Kinabalu, and begin the 3-hour drive into the wild, northern part of Sabah, where city life gives way to oil palms and coconut plantations. You’ll stop in the communities of Gombizou and Sumangkap to see how locals shape traditional gongs and raise honeybees, then arrive in Bavanggazo village, which is home to a thriving community of indigenous Rungus people.
Visit the local longhouse where families live side by side, and enjoy a traditional lunch before continuing north to Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, an additional 1.5-hour drive from Bavanggazo village.
This is where South China Sea meets the Sulu Sea, and you can make your way to the very end of the island to see the two bodies of water meet. You’ll have views of the Pulau Kalampunian lighthouse that protects the treacherous coast during powerful storms, as well as a glimpse of Pantai Kalampunian beach, and don't miss the engraved bronze marker that notes the latitude and longitude of the isolated spot.
After your time at the Tip of Borneo, begin the return trip to Kota Kinabalu, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel at roughly 5:30pm.
