Had a great day the guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the centre. No orangutans at the feeding platform but did see one in the sunbear enclosure . There were also 2 that wandered from the glass feeding area so we also saw them close up. Lunch was great- typical Malaysian food.
Firstly, know that you have to book additional domestic flights from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan that's not included in the package. You will receive an email after booking the tour of the suggested times and the day will start at 4-5 AM due to the pick-up. But from your hotel at KK, the tour is very organised and makes sure you're delivered to each point.
At the orangutan center, know that it is never guaranteed that you will see orangutans because it is a sanctuary in the WILD. You will see them in the nursery center behind a glass and also at the feeding platform if you're lucky. Our tour guide then took us to see Sun Bears at the center next to it Around 30 MYR at your own cost which you might as well since you flew all the way to Sandakan...
During lunch we were brought to an English tea house to have English food by the sea good restaurant and great views. Our tour guide then took us on a local city tour around Sandakan and he was very knowledgable and interesting, teaching us of local culture and history. We were very lucky to have had Omar as our tour guide - he got along with everyone very well and kept us entertained with all his intelligence! Thank you so much Omar for such a great day at Sandakan!
The full day tour was great, Bennie met us in the morning at the centre, she made sure that we had great seats for the young OrangUtans,
after their feeding we went to another feeding platform, not as many this time but other monkeys. The sun bear sanctuary was good too. After we had a wonderful lunch and a couple of beers, with another couple. We then did the city tour quite interesting. Bennie was so knowledgeable. The Day was wonderful. Massive storm after dropped off, the flight was delayed 5 hours. We can't control the weather:

Fantastic we seen a Orang Utan in its natural environment.Had a very good and passionate Guide who showed us more around Sadakan including the must see Australian War Memorial gardens and the start of the Death March. He also took us to the floating Village to see how they live which I thought was interesting. To top it off we had lunch in a beautiful English Tea Garden over looking the City.Only poor points a long day from Kota Kinabalu, and not many Orang Utans to see as in their natural environment and do not come out as much.
Amazing guide, organised and bespoke. There was flexibility in the activities, the guide was very informative and genuinely cared about conservation and his country. We had a lovely lunch and city tour.
Can not recommend highly enough and Rusli is a real asset to the company. Amazing day.
Had to get up early for our flight to Sandakan but seeing the orang utans at Sepilok was worth the effort. If you are doing this tour from Kota Kinabalu I would suggest you fly Air Asia. We had booked our return flight with Malaysia Airlines and when we got to the airport we found out that our flight was delayed by more 2 hrs with no real explanation. Also would have liked to have had more time at the Rehabilitation Cente but I would still recommend taking this tour.
We had a brilliant time on our trip the guide was so well informed and very helpful , well worth the money .
The whole day was so well organised and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We all loved seeing the orang utan, but the bonus was the fascinating tour of Sandakan after. A trip well worth the effort.
A great day in Sandakan. We flew in from Kota Kinabalu early and spent the morning at Sepilok. The Orangutans didn and #39;t come to the feeding platform, but we did see them up in the trees as we walked the boardwalk. We were entertained by several Orangutans outside at the Nursery. the tour was brilliant!
Super trip! We arrived early to enjoy viewing the orangutans. Loved the lunch and views at the English Teahouse and we enjoyed the water village! Due to heavy traffic we skipped the markets/temple and went back to Sepilok where the afternoon viewing was much better. We recommend this switch!
The entire day was wonderful. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, not just about the orang utan rehabilitation center, but also about the culture, heritage, and other activities.
Very good organised, every thing was perfect and a good guide and driver .we are satisfide
Absolutely loved it, even though we had to start at 4.45 am to get our flight, but we were at the other end of the island. Once we arrived we didnt expect to get a good viewing as a US cruise ship had docked, so there were a lot of people, nevertheless we had a good viewing and were able to stay for long time. We seen a total, of siz orangutans. While a couple just stayed on the platform eating, otheres entertained us with their antics. We then went across the centre for a viewing of the snow bears. On returning to the centre, we were privileged to have the company of Sen, a young orangutan who has been rehabilitated, came out of the rain forest and entertained us for ages, just wandering and swinging about. He even came and sat on the benches with us and took hold of my husbands hand. I was also even able able to stroke him, although this is not permitted. I think it was this that made it so enjoyable. You have to really want to see the orangutans to warrant the cost if you have to take a plane ride. We later went to an English tearoom for lunch which was very nice.
It was a great last minute tour up to see the orangutan. We were very lucky to see quite a few and there was plenty of photo opportunities. We were also very lucky to be take to the sandakan war memorial as well.
Fantastic, our guide and driver were absolutely great. Nordin and Reward. Very informative and attentive and accommodating. The Rehab centre does such a wonderful job for these amazing creatures. We had a wonderful, although tiring and long, day. Our resort, Shangra-La provided us with breakfast as we had a 5am start for the day. At the risk of repeating myself, it was a great day.

an excellent day trip for which we were provided with a driver and personal guide who was very knowledgable.. we saw orangutans as soon as we arrived at the rehabilitation centre and also on the feeding platform. te bhuddist temple was very well decorated internally and has a superb view of the town. we finished with the Sandakan Memorial Park which was very moving when reading about the treatment of the prisoners of the war in Japanese hands. all in all a very worthwhile trip and one that me and my wife thoroughly enjoyed
Brilliant trip. Not to be missed. Very informative with clear instructions at the sanctuary. Fantastic to see these beautiful animals in their own environment.
Awesome. A great way to get up close and personal with the Orangutan's whilst also knowing that you are contributing to their rehabilitation. I went at feeding time and it was not in any way crowded. The logistics of getting to and from Sandakan and Sepilok were well organized. As a single traveler I had to pay a 100% supplement to be able to complete this tour. Expensive (for me) but well worth it, a great experience.

The tour to the Orang Utan sanctuary was really well organised, efficient & a great excursion. We were lucky to be able to stand on the boardwalk with an Orang Utan playfully rolling near our feet. Watching the feeding session was entertaining & the information session about the sanctuary was very informative. We asked to see the Sandakan Memorial instead of visiting the Buddist temple & this was easily & efficiently organised. The excursion was well worth the cost & highly recommended.

Early start to fly over to Sandakan and the Sepilok Centre but well worth it. Very, very hot and humid throughout the feeding time so make sure you take water. There are plenty of orangutans on view but also plenty of people. You need a good camera to be able to take good shots and preferably a tripod although when we went two of the orangutan actually got onto the viewing platform!! Brilliant experience.

Our visit to Sepilok was excellent and the orangutans were very visible. The add on visit to the Buddhist temple was out of context and of little interest. Lunch at the English tea house was disappointing, even if serviced with good Malaysian hospitality.

We skipped the video show, so we went in early and there were five orangutans playing near the rangers on the viewing platform. When more people arrived, they went back into the rain forest, but soon reappeared when the food did. Everything was very well organized: we had a great guide who was very informative and helpful. This experience is not to be missed, but we were very lucky as well.
This is undoubtedly a fantastic way to get pretty up class and personal with the orangutans. Just fantastic. Highlight was two of these gorgeous creatures walking past us in the car park holding hands!
However, I noticed that the entry to the park was 30 Ringgit about 6. I also had to purchase my flights to and from Sandakan from KK separately for another 65.
Lunch at The English Tea Rooms was great, our guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable....but 220 altogether???? I'd LOVE to know where this money goes??
I would advise a DIY tour, which skips out the city tour, as it's pretty grim, and return on the 2pm ish flight
