Visit a pair of Poland's UNESCO World Heritage Sites in a single day on this combo tour from Krakow. First, pay tribute to Holocaust victims and learn about one of the darkest chapters in European history with a guided visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. After a lunch break, head deep underground to tour the mesmerizing chambers, tunnels, and saline lakes of the Wieliczka Salt Mine, an incredible mining complex founded in the 13th century.
Very well organised (although the pick up time did not quite work). Bus a bit tight for the long rides and quite exhausting to spend 13 hours driving and climbing stairs and walking long ways around the sites. But a good compact way to see everything - and we were warned before ...
Chilling Auschwitz and Amazing Wieliczka Salt Mines
, Aug 2019
I have read so much about the extermination of the people sent to Auschwitz but until you have actually been to this place and really saw what went on it is chilling and astounding that human beings can be so cruel and without thought or feelings toward mankind no matter who you are.
Thank goodness we went down the Mines in Wieliczka to give a little respite and peace after Auschwitz.
This combo tour, while very long, provided the ideal opportunity to visit two of the most significant sites in the Krakow area in one day. Felip, our guide, treated the visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau with great empathy. Although the visit in the a/noon to the salt mine was managed by a local guide, Felip's organisational skills meant that we were able to maximise our time there.
Auschwitz was sad and sobering but worth visiting. The salt mines were very interesting. Not everyone was on the combo tour so we had to go back to Krakow and drop people off and pick up new people. Between the traffic and the going around small old town streets and some late arrivals that was way too much driving. We finally got a lunch break at 3:55 which meant only 30 minutes since the salt mines tour started at 4:30. People should be made aware of this ahead of time. Driver and guide were courteous and nice. Pickup and drop off was available.
Our guide Felip was a wonderful host. He was remarkably respectful and informative for the first section of the tour to Auschwitz-Birkenau.. He ensured that all guests were well informed but did not overdo anything.
The second section of the tour was to Wieliczka Salt Mine and they supplied an excellent guide.
Overall, a tiring but wonderful day.
Really enjoyed our day trip combining the Salt Mines and Auschwitz-Birkenau. Time constraints made it necessary to do both in the one day and it was sufficient time for both. It was a long day, really enjoyed the salt mines. Auschwitz and Birkenau was harrowing but very worthwhile, it is important that people do not forget and seeing the camps will give you a very good insight into what these people went through.
The combination of the two halves of the day was perfect. After the difficult morning we were all ready for lunch. (Lunch is NOT included in the package). Viator did a good job of making the reservation and working with a local transport and guide company. Viator is a Trip Advisor company and not the local guide. The price was the same as the local guide price so don't spend time looking around. There was 7 of us on our tour. The guides were wonderful and really made the day. We had some very minor waits as our small group was consolidated with bigger groups for the tour. The transport was exactly on time and the day went exactly as advertised. For anyone coming to Krakow we would think this tour is a must.
Driver was very polite, helpful and correct. Not sure the vehicle was the most comfortable.
we were informed at every stage where to be and also chased up when necessary,
In our case the 2nd trip was only attended by us 5 other visitors decided not to come but then the guide/driver offered us the chance to visit earlier.
Both visits were amazing and well worth the time spent.
I would have preferred a film or something before arriving at the camps.
