This trip was a lifelong ambition of mine and I was not disappointed. The early start (5.45am) was a bit difficult but I can see that it beats the crowds. The video shown on the coach was excellent and very moving. We had a good tour guide at the 2 sites and the whole experience was very emotional and of such historical interest. I would have liked a bit more free time at both sites to explore a few things independently.
Our driver was late picking us up and after getting in the transport advised that he would explain everything when we got there. He then spent all his time driving - and checking his phone, replying to messages (texting). I asked him to stop texting.
At Auschwitz we had a different guide and joined a group of about 30 in total. The guide's microphone wasn't working and despite many people in the group telling her she didn't get it changed. We missed most of the talk; that which we did hear was very factual. We were herded through and given no time to read information or ponder.
The Birkenau part of the trip was better.
Our driver returned us back without any further communication from him.
I was very happy with this service. A friendly driver picked us up at the arranged time of 6:30am from our hotel. He had already picked up a few others before getting to us. A comfortable journey to Auschwitz taking an hour at that time in the morning from the centre of Krakow. Our tour guide of the camps was excellent. We stayed with our group and once the tour of the first camp had finished our driver took us to Birkenau where our tour continued with the same guide. A very well organised trip. Would recommend.
Me and my 16 year old son made a trip to Poland specifically to go on this tour. It was exceptionally well organised, with confirmation of arrangements reassuring and pick ups . The visit was informative although heart breaking and shocking as you would expect. The taxi driver was personable and efficient. The tour guide was a rather wooden in her delivery of the information , then again who could dwell on those horrors on a daily basis . All in all an excellent tour
I was very satisfied with this trip. Our guide and driver were very professional and organized. We were able to get in very quickly and bypassed the extremely long lines. We used headphones to hear our guide in the first part of the tour. These worked fairly well but tended to fade out if the guide got too far ahead of us. There is a fair amount of walking involved in this so be prepared, especially on the second part of the tour. Although the subject matter of this tour is very disturbing and sad (which really does not begin to describe this chapter in humanity's history), I feel it is something everyone should do if possible.
Our guide was not very informative she constantly repeated herself and was accompanied by another guide who didn't say a word. This made us think our guide was a trainee. The day we went it was very busy and there were a lot of people in each group so much so each group seemed to be hanging around waiting for the group in front to finish their guide's talk. When we went to Birkenau we were shown very little and the information given was extremely poor. I had done this excursion previously so was able to fill my husband and friend in on the valuable information which was not relayed to the group. I would not recommend this tour to my friends during July and August - peak holiday periods.
