Combine two UNESCO World Heritage–listed attractions on a full-day tour of both Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz-Birkenau from Krakow. Alongside your guide, you'll navigate the atmospheric tunnels of Wieliczka Salt Mine as you listen to fascinating tales about the 700-year-old complex. Later the same day, visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, and learn about the devastating history of the Holocaust during a guided tour. Round-trip transport from your Krakow hotel is included.
Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour (4 hours):
After pickup from your Krakow hotel, you’ll travel through the scenic Polish countryside and then descend 440 feet (135 meters) to the subterranean Wieliczka Salt Mine. Meander through a succession of UNESCO-listed chambers and observe the ornate Chapel of the Blessed King, home to chandeliers and altarpieces made from salt, as you listen to history-rich commentary from your guide.
Marvel at a salt mining exhibition, listen to the legend of Hungarian princess Kinga, and browse souvenirs in the gift shop. Then, shoot back to sea level in a high-speed lift before you return to central Krakow to enjoy two hours of leisurely free time before your next tour.
Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour (7 hours):
Depart from central Krakow in a comfortable vehicle and travel directly to the UNESCO-listed Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp complex with your guide. During the journey, watch a documentary that details the history of the Holocaust.
On arrival, embark on a guided tour of the complex and visit significant buildings including the gas chambers and crematoriums. Examine exhibitions in the historical museum and see the watchtowers formerly patrolled by Nazi officers before you pay your respects at the camp’s memorial.
Following your exploration of the grounds, return to your vehicle for the journey back to your Krakow hotel, where the tour concludes.
