I absolutely loved this experience. It was me and another couple. We were greeted by our guide who then took us to the old Polish outdoor market. He explained some foods and we tried a few things. He then had us shop for ingredients for our pierogis and made us each order the items from the vendor in Polish. Not easy, but fun! and the locals got a kick out of it. WE stopped to buy dessert at a local bakery and he explained some neighborhood sites along the way. We arrived at the apartment, took off our shoes and introduced ourselves to the woman who was our host and instructor. How lovely that she let us in her home. She didn't speak English but she gave us great instruction and our guide translated. It was like cooking with my great grandmother who didn't speak English but man she gestured to what i was supposed to do. I was a natural! We each had tasks, made the final product and then enjoyed the dish. I brought some wine so everyone could share. What a wonderful day.
This cooking class was such a delight! We had the pleasure of meeting with Anna, who took us to a great outdoor market and let us order the ingredients as she taught us how to say them in Polish. Than we had a lovely stroll to her home. She provided us with some cheese a appetizer as she got to know us a little better. Than she taught us step by step how to make homemade delicious pierogis! We had such a blast, and she was very friendly and made us feel comfortable. We really enjoyed being in her home and learning how to make such a staple in Poland. After we were all done we sat down and enjoyed them together. It was a really great day, and I would recommend this clads to anyone who is interested in learning a new skill, and enjoys cooking or just learning something new!
Excellent..do not miss this one. What made this experience memorable our tour guide opened up her private home for our pierogi cooking class.. First - the market to buy what we needed including beer and wine...then off to our instructor's home. We had a couple from Orlando and a couple from the UK that were traveling together. Sampled regional cheese and pickles as well as local fruits. Great group...a lot of fun! According to our instructor's husband we scored an 8 10 being his mother's pierogi! so pretty good!
What a fun, unforgettable experience! We were first met by Thomas, who's enthusiasm is contagious, and we were given maps that included basic Polish vocabulary. We were told that we were going to visit one of the oldest market places in Poland the Stary Kleparz and that we were going to ask for our ingredients for the pierogies from the vendors at the market in Polish! We were a little nervous at first but with some helpful tutoring from Thomas we all did very well and it was a lot of fun too. We learned more about Polish foods as we walked about the market and picked up a few more items before heading off to Thomas' mom's house. Yes, we really went to his mom's house and she was so very welcoming that you immediately felt like you were visiting old friends or family. We cleaned up and were put to work peeling and cutting potatoes and onions. While we waited for the ingredients to cook we sampled some Polish snacks purchased from the market as well as sampled Polish beers. Everything was delicious, our favorite was the smoked cheese. Yum! We discussed where items were made and the history of the foods and even talked about where we were all from our small group of six was from California all the way to Denmark. Next, it was pierogie dough making time. We each took turns, rolling out the dough, cutting the circles and filling the pierogies. The finished pierogies went into the boiling water and soon it was time for the big reward, eating! Our finished product was fantastic! This was a very fun, hands-on experience that we would do again. If you truly want to feel like you are part of Poland, you must step away from the tourist crowds for a bit and into the welcoming home of the locals. You will be so happy that you did!
This is so much more than a cooking class.
Tomasz and his mother Anna were the highlight of our whole trip to Poland. Anna is very sweet and talented Anna and Tomasz is a perfect guide and host. We felt like we were visiting friends and cooking and eating an amazing meal together.
Tomasz was early, waiting for us when we arrived, and promptly began to teach us the Polish language skills we would use in the market when we shopped for the ingredients of our Pierogi. His english skills are excellent and his enthusiasm is infectious. The trip to the market was fun and interesting, and soon we were in Anna's home cooking. We asked a million questions and talked while cooking and we got to know so much about Poland that we could not have without having visited our new friends. The numerous appetizers, Pierogi, and desert were truly amazing.
We did many things on our trip to Poland. My group voted this to be the best thing we did on the whole trip. Tomasz and Anna have our sincere thanks and admiration.
Monica and Stefano were great hosts, experts about the area, and cooking teachers. The trip through the farmers market was fun.The cooking was fantastic. Will make the dishes for friends at home.We appreciate that they answered all our questions about Krakow and its history. We highly recommend the class.
My fiance and I came to Krakow for part of our honeymoon and took this class. It was absolutely amazing! Our guide took us through the local farmers market, taught us a few Polish phrases, and even talked to us about this history of the city and country. Making the pierogi and #39;s was such a fun time!!
I highly recommend taking a Polish cooking class with Urban Adventures in Krakow. Our host family was excellent in every aspect.
Monika Prylinska was the main host of our trip. Transportation was provided and we also went on an open market grocery run to get our supplies for making homemade Pierogi. The highlight of the day!!!
Once we arrived to our destination kitchen, we had some Polish appetizers before we began our cooking adventure of the homemade Pierogi. We were able to sample other Polish cuisine before our class which I thought was a fantastic idea.
If you enjoy doing something a little different, love food and want to experience the Polish culture, I highly recommend taking this cooking class with Urban Adventures.
Anna was terrific. She took us to the market and we shopped for the ingredients we neeed to make really fantastic pierogies. My wife and I enjoyed talking with her and learning about Krakow and Poland. A great four hours.
Do not miss this enjoyable authentic opportunity to experience first hand Polish culture and cuisine. Our guide Magda and her grandmother are five-star ambassadors. The tour begins with a type of 'scavenger hunt' at a Saturday morning neighborhood market. Shopping for the our lunch ingredients included numerous fun surprises. This tour is a must do - you feel immediately at home and not only do you learn how to make a very delicious Polish dish but you also gain new friends in Poland.
The cooking experience was well planned. Tommy is very experienced with polish cuisine.
Had a great time with my family learning to cook and interacting with local Polish people. If you are looking for something different to do and experience real Polish culture then give it a try.
Fantastic class with wonderful hosts! Monica and her husband are so welcoming and patient. They prepared us a light breakfast before starting our cooking class and showed us how to make delicious pierogi which we enjoyed for lunch after as well as some other samples of traditional polish food they had prepared. Highly recommend spending a morning enjoying this great class!!
Wow....this was the best experience of our trip so far. Magda, our beautiful host met us at the agreed location then took us to the local market. She gave us a list of food to buy in order to make the Pierogi and then let us use a little Polish and a lot of sign language to get the ingredients. Once we had achieved our first task, she took us to her flat where we met her gorgeous grandmother. We the learnt how to make Pierogi and learnt a lot more about Polish culture and food. It was an amazing experience and we came away feeling very happy and full. Highly recommend this tour and greatly appreciate the time that Magda and her grandmother gave us.
A home cooking class is a sensational way to meet new people as well as locals, experience their culture, and of course learn about Polish cooking. With a fantastic guide Tomasz, he lead our small group through the markets where we had to flex our Polish language skills whilst learning about different foods. The day was a sensational experience, with our guide's mother playing host in her home - Anna. It was a brilliant combination and truly made the day a far richer experience. I definitely recommend this cooking tour/class - you won't be disappointed.
I REALLY enjoyed this class! And would recommend it to anyone who would like a different sort of travel experience. There were a lot of side benefits to the class. For one thing, we went to a large and colorful market that I otherwise would have missed to buy our ingredients, we took public transportation to a community outside the normal tourist areas, we went to someone's home where we were greeted by her grandmother who helped a lot with the cooking,. The end product was delicious and I was sorry when it was time to leave.
This Cooking Class was a highlight of our visit to Krakow.
Our very helpful, charming, perfect English speaking Guide Monica waited for us at the given time and place. We got money to go to the market, lovely and lively market! And we shopped for our lunch, which was fun.
At home Stefano greeted us kindly and learned us how to make the Russian Pierogi and we made them and we had a very nice lunch with more goodies from the market. Our hosts go out of their way to tell about Krakow history, family life and Monica brought us back to the Hotel.
This was a fantastic way to experience true Poland. Our guide Monika was superb in every way - she welcomed us in her home as if we had been long time friends. I highly, highly recommend this tour!
First, getting to the Dauna tram stop was very easy from the Market Square. Shopping in the market was a lot of fun. The hosts were exceedingly friendly and talking with them made me feel very welcome in Poland. The pierogies we made were simple and delicious - I've since used that recipe at home to make more. This is a great tour, especially if you are traveling solo.
My wife and I had a really great time on this tour. The hosts, Monika and Stefano, were wonderful - very friendly, welcoming and interesting people. Conversation flowed very easily and Monika was extremely helpful in giving us information about Krakow and the surrounding area. We tried a number of Polish specialities that we shopped for which were all delicious and we all made pierogi together in their beautiful flat. Pierogi is a really delicious dumpling filled with savoury delights, and is essentially made in the same way as pasta so it was great to learn how to make it. Stefano originated from Italy so told us how we can apply similar techniques to Italian pasta-making. This was an especially great tour because Monika and Stefano had loads of information about Poland and Polish traditions but have also obviously travelled a lot and have very interesting stories to tell. And their 18 month old daughter joined us at the end and she's super cute! Highly recommended for those who would like to do something that shows how locals live, while learning something new and finding out a lot about the city of Krakow and Polish people and traditions.
This was an amazing experience! We were able to experience a Saturday morning market and then traveled to a traditional Polish home. Thomas and his family welcomed us as if we were long-time friends. We had such fun making pierogis and enjoying the family. It truly was one of the highlights of our trip. Thank you Thomas for such a wonderful day!
