2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better April 2014

Taman Negara is well worth the trip and but 3 days is a bit short -- 4 to 6 days would be much better. The lodge offers good but rough accommodations, good food and interesting activities. However, the tour with Viator was a big DISSAPOINTMENT! It was expensive and not well organized. We were picked up at our hotel and taken to another spot and left there for about an hour -- unattended ,uninformed and alone. The person who left us didn't know anything except that we were to wait there. Finally someone picked us up and drove us to the boat landing (where we waited about 1 1/2 hours). This was a 4 to 5 hour ride and lunch was NOT included. When we finally did meet the boat, we had to pay a porter or carry our own bags down (about 100 steps) to the boat landing! We also had to pay a small amount for a park pass! On the return we had the same wait times and were dropped at the same spot to be picked up and taken to our hotel. We felt that the trip was expensive enough that they could have attended us better and given lunch. The lodge was good but Viator's part of the trip was poor. It might be easier to fly into Kota Bharu and take public transport or a taxi.
