Elephant Orphanage Sanctuary and Aboriginal Settlement Tour from Kuala Lumpur

Escape the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur as you explore the unique wildlife and cultural heritage of Malaysia on this full-day, 8-hour tour with lunch. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the unique biodiversity and unexpected culture of the region surrounding this large city.

Start your day around 8:45am with a pickup from your central Kuala Lumpur hotel. Some pickups will start before this time, so check your reconfirmation from the tour operator for the exact schedule. Continue by coach for two hours outside the city center to the Malaysian state of Pahang, where you’ll explore an unexpected aboriginal settlement and observe the residents' fascinating daily activity. Join the indigenous people as they hunt for food, build fires and listen to their stories, thanks to translations from your guide.

Proceed next to the Elephant Orphanage Sanctuary (also called the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary), a conservation center tasked with saving Asian elephants whose natural homes have been lost due to urbanization. The sanctuary also offers a chance to learn about the center’s work and discover the importance of preserving both the animal’s habitats and their natural environment. Admire these gentle animals in their meticulously re-created natural environments, allowing them a chance to gain their strength back before being let loose back in the wild. You’ll also get to watch the specially-trained staff feed them. It’s an amazing chance to get an intimate look at these one-of-a-kind creatures.

Around noon, take a break to enjoy a packed lunch or by enjoying an included meal at a local restaurant. Finish your excursion with a ride back to Kuala Lumpur and drop-off at your hotel.

This was an amazing trip, the driver was very informative and professional, he was also very friendly. There were just two small issues, the small bus we took was very old and I was not sure it would make it back and forth, it was very shaky to say the least. I think they need to update the vehicles. The other small issue was when we got there, there was a little confusion over the tour guide at the sanctuary.

This Tour was a Great way to see the Malaysian Countryside. Excellent Guide, small Group, highly recommend it. The Elephant Sanctury was very good, well Organised, and of course the Baby Elephants were Gorgeous.

We had a nice guide which made a big difference as we had had some bad experiences on other trips. This guide actually stayed during our meal and ate with us, he also included drinks, whereas on all other trips the guide tells you to buy your own,. He also provided different fruits for us to try and we felt he was interested and eager to make the trip enjoyable for us. He was attentive and gave good and interesting commentary throughout the trip. The elephants were fun, we did not know from details on viator site that it included bathing with the elephants so had not brought a towel or change of clothes. However, guide really helpfu,l supplied paper towels and in heat quickly dried off. One of the better KL trips and very educational-great trip for kids!

Fabulous trip - excellent guide. Interesting to see the countryside. Elephants were enchanting though getting in the river with them would surely be a brave and dubious thing to do. Great experience

This is an all day trip which was stated although quite a lot of time is spent travelling on the coach. Not an issue for us although worth a mention as maybe a consideration for others.
Stopped off after about an hour to see the 'aboriginal settlement'. Not at at all what we expected - it was a tiny town with not a lot to see. Although there may have been useful information about it but the guide just left us to look around for an hour or so. Bit disappointing as seemed a wasted opportunity to find out more about local Malaysian life. Guide also tried to suggest we had lunch here which did not go down well as it was only about 10.30am! However we did get to try to the local delicacy of durian fruit which was an experience!!!!!
Then drove to elephant sanctuary which was amazing! Watched a short documentary about the sanctuary and then had lunch which was fine. Saw lots of beautiful elephants and had the opportunity to bathe baby elephants. The elephant keepers were fantastic and although they do this everyday, made it feel like it was special to visitors and were happy to take photos for people. We must have missed it in the event info but we didn't realise that this was definitely included so didn't bring a change of clothes or a towel. Not a problem for my husband who had quick drying shorts and sandals, but I had walking boots and thicker trousers so didn't go in and bathe the elephants. Watching it was still beautiful though as the baby elephants looked like they were having so much fun!
Rated only four stars because the first part of the tour wasn't great and the guide could have been more informative we did several tours in Malaysia and the other guides were all better than excellent. However, I would give 10 stars if I could for the elephant sanctuary!
