Make a stop at Deerland Park en route to the sanctuary, where you’ll watch Indonesian deer prance through the Malaysian countryside. Your guide will offer insight and history about the nomadic lifestyle of those living in the aboriginal settlement you visit before you make your way to your destination.

Travel through dense rainforest and lush tropical foliage where you’ll emerge at the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary. Known also as the Elephant Orphan Sanctuary—this unique destination is located just an hour and a half from Kuala Lumpur but feels like a lifetime away. Your tour of the grounds kicks off with an informative video that details the preservation efforts taken by the Malaysian Wildlife Society to protect these gentle giants.

Tuck into a Malaysian lunch from a popular restaurant, or packed to carry. Afternoon tours offer a chance to bathe baby elephants if river conditions allow. (Please note: this optional activity is not included in the tour price and must be purchased at the sanctuary. Bathing does not take place when water levels are high.)

My tour was amazing! My guide name pronounced like EYE was outstanding! He was full of so much knowledge of all things Malaysia animals, areas, food, EVERYTHING!. He guided me the whole way through Deerland and the sanctuary and was more than happy to take pictures, offer fun facts, and make jokes. I definitely recommend this tour. Don't forget to bring money to tip because he is great. I forgot and have never felt so bad about not tipping:-

Absolutely amazing!! Firstly, our guide Ai was great! Having grown up in the Malay village next door to the sanctuary, he knew lots of extra little places to take us on the journey out from KL to the jungle where the sanctuary sits to make it that extra special - ie he took us to a Latex plantation, a bird's nest farm, into a traditional Malay village AND because he knew all the rangers at the sanctuary, he arranged exclusive meetings for me and my new husband we were there on honeymoon to see the elephants and pet them on our own away from the crowds! He was full of knowledge about the country and the culture during our ride out of KL, and it made for a fantastic time.
The sanctuary itself was great. The elephants, adults and babies, are in pens when you first arrive ready for you to feed peanuts to : Then you get to watch a video about the work they do there - how the elephants come to be rescued and rehabilitated. Then there's a show and you get to feed the elephants again and watch them get bathed by there riders. After this, if you wish to pay approx. 12 per couple once there, you can get into the river with one of the baby elephants and give them a bath for a few minutes. Me and my husband did this and it was something we'll never forget - fantastic!
Before heading there though we had one stop at the Deer Park to feed some deers and have a walk through the small nature park there. Pythons, bearded dragons, raccoons - we saw them all here - as well as handling some!
As this was a private tour as well, we had a van all to ourselves with our own driver/tour guide there and back. He looked after us at every stop, told us when to move on to each feeding post, before the crowds did so we got a good viewing spot and just generally gave us good advice all day so we didn't get caught out. All drinks and lunch were paid for by our driver also as they were already included in our tour price paid. being taken care of like this, made it all the more special :

We absolutely loved this experience! Everything that we did was memorable - the Batu Caves, Deerland Park, and of course, the Elephant Sanctuary. Washing the baby elephants was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not to be missed. And of course, our guide Zul was fantastic. He did everything possible to make us comfortable and get us acquainted with Malaysia. Thanks so much!

A brilliant day out. My guide went out of his way to make it all very personal and took me to additional stops on the way as I was the only passenger to get some cheap shorts and top The bathing of the baby elephants was wonderful, but do remember to take with you an old pair of shorts and top to wear on the river and a towel as there aren't any in the showers. Hence my stop to buy! I'd booked at the very last minute on a Sunday but the company went out of their way to let me know the times and pick up and checked with hotel to make sure I'd received them. All I can say is brilliant !
